Opportunity to Comment Junction City Community Risk Reduction Project USDA Forest Service Shasta-Trinity National Forest Big Bar District Trinity County, California The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is seeking comments on the proposed Junction City Community Risk Reduction Project (Project). A comment period is being offered for this project to allow interested parties to provide information and share comments, concerns, or questions to be considered during analysis and prior to a decision being made by the Responsible Official. The Junction City Community Risk Reduction Project area encompasses approximately 6,644 acres. The Project is being designed to lower high-severity wildfire risk to the community of Junction City by reducing hazardous fuels around the community and improving forest health and resilience. Post-fire restoration, reforestation, hazardous fuels reduction, forest thinning, prescribed fire, meadow and riparian restoration, and road and stream crossing maintenance and upgrades are proposed. How to Comment and Timeframe Comments concerning this action will be accepted until the close of business, March 16, 2026. The Forest Service is seeking authorization to use the Emergency Situation Determination made by the Secretary of Agriculture in April of 2025 under Section 40807 of the existing Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Under this emergency authority, the project Decision Notice will not be subject to pre-decisional administrative review (Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012, Pub. L. 112-74) as implemented by Subparts A and B of 36 CFR part 218 for emergency activities authorized under Section 40807. This public outreach is intended to meet both the Public Notice and Public Comment requirements of Section 40807 of the IIJA of 2021 and will be the only opportunity to formally submit comments on this Project. All written comments received by the responsible official become a matter of public record.
