CITY OF POWAYNOTICE AND SUMMARY OF PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 881 was introduced at the Regular City Council meeting of April 7, 2026. This Ordinance will be considered for adoption at the Regular City Council meeting of May 5, 2026. Full text is available in the City Clerk's Office at 13325 Civic Center Drive, Poway, CA or online at www.poway.org.ORDINANCE NO. 881 entitled, “An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Poway, California, Authorizing an Amendment to the Contract between the City Council of the City of Poway and the Board of Administration of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS).”This Ordinance No. 881 authorizes an amendment to the City’s contract with CalPERS to formally include provisions of the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA). On January 1, 2013, PEPRA took effect to reduce pension costs and ensure the long‑term sustainability of the retirement system. At the time PEPRA was implemented, CalPERS did not require a formal contract amendment to incorporate the benefit changes mandated by law. CalPERS is now requiring contract agencies in California, including the City of Poway, to amend their current contracts to include PEPRA language. This is a clean‑up item only and does not enhance, reduce, or change any retirement benefits with CalPERS. Published in the Poway News Chieftain on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
