CITY OF OAKLAND NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON THE DRAFT 2026-2031 LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN AS AN AMENDMENT TO THE SAFETY ELEMENT OF THE OAKLAND GENERAL PLAN Notice is hereby given that the Oakland Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the Draft 2026-2031 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) on Wednesday, May 6th at 3:00 p.m., at Oakland City Hall, Hearing Room 1, One Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Oakland CA 94612. Under the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act, the City is required to adopt an LHMP every five years which will be incorporated as an appendix to the Safety Element of the Oakland General Plan. Staff invites the public to learn more about the Draft LHMP and leave comments for consideration as part of the Plan's Annual Maintenance Strategy on the LHMP website: www.oaklandca.gov/oaklandhazardplan The Draft 2026-2031 LHMP identifies projects that could potentially reduce risks in the community from natural hazards (e.g., wildfire, floods or earthquakes), and is designed to reduce the loss of life and property. To be most effective, a Hazard Mitigation Plan is prepared before a disaster occurs by identifying the hazards a community faces, assessing vulnerabilities to the hazards and identifying specific actions that can be taken to reduce the risk. Oakland residents and business owners are invited to share their priorities on reducing the effects of natural hazards and risks at public meetings/hearings. Interested parties, jurisdictions and agencies are welcome to attend these meetings/hearings, and provide either written or oral comments. Please direct all written comments to: Veronika Cole Emergency Planning Coordinator, Oakland Fire Department 1605 Martin Luther King Jr. Way Oakland, CA 94612 Comments may also be emailed to emergencyplanning@oaklandca.gov If you challenge the adoption of the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan as an amendment to the Safety Element of the Oakland General Plan in court, you may be limited to raising only those issues you or someone else raised at the public hearings described in this notice, or in written correspondence delivered via email to Veronika Cole, Emergency Planning Coordinator, at emergencyplanning@oaklandca.gov at, or prior to, the public hearing.
