THE SCHOOL BOARD OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA NOTICE OF INTENT TO ESTABLISH A RULE RULE NUMBERS/TITLES: New Policy 9271 Personalized Education Program PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The Florida legislature recently included statutory language allowing a student to participate in a "personalized education program" (PEP) in accordance with F.S. 1002.01 and 1002.395. Pursuant to F.S. 1002.01, PEP students must be provided with the same flexibility and opportunities as home education students provided in F.S. 1002.41 (3)-(12). Accordingly, new Policy 9271 was drafted to provide guidelines for the districts PEP. Moreover, F.S. 1002.395 allows PEP students to use scholarship funds for contracted services provided by a public school or school district, including classes. As such, an option exists in the new policy for entering such a contract. SUMMARY OF THE RULE: This policy identifies the opportunities available in the District for students enrolled in a Personalized Education Program (PEP). PEP, as more fully defined in F.S. 1002.01, is a sequentially progressive instruction of a student directed by his/her parent to satisfy the attendance requirements of Florida law while registered with an eligible nonprofit scholarship funding organization pursuant to F.S. 1002.395.
