Wood had no scheduled meetings last week.Discussion of old/new business and public comment was held. Patrick Lalla, Keokuk County Paramedic, Sigourney Fire & Rescue & Iowa County Reserve Deputy was present to discuss the alleged indiscretions regarding accountability and professionalism of the Keokuk County Sheriff and Sheriff's Department and why the Board of Supervisors are not addressing said public concerns. The Board of Supervisor's responded this matter has been referred to the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) for investigation and are currently awaiting a response. Also clarified was the Sheriff is an elected official, and therefore they are only in control of the Sheriff's Department budget. Lalla then inquired about the additional $10,000 raise given to the Sheriff noting the alleged indiscretions. The Board responded that they were legally obligated to comply with Iowa code Section 331.907-Compensation Schedule a/k/a the Back the Blue Law and Iowa Code Section 341A-Civil Service for Deputy County Sheriffs.On vote and motion Hadley adjourned the meeting at 9:50 a.m.The above and foregoing information is a summary of the minutes taken at the above indicated meeting.
