Notification of Environmental Investigation and Cleanup Former Newark Police Academy Shooting Range 294-308 Avenue P, Newark, New Jersey (Block 5060.01 / Lot 150) NJDEP Preferred ID #G000008888 March 30, 2026 In accordance with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations for Notification and Public Outreach (N.J.A.C. 7:26C-1.7), the following provides a summary of information relating to environmental investigation and remedial activities that have been and are being conducted at the above-referenced former Newark Police Academy Shooting Range (Site). Impacts at the Site are associated with its prior use as a shooting range, previous industrial/commercial activities, and with past historic fill placement. Compounds detected in soil at the Site include total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)/ extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (EPH), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), pesticides and metals. Apollo Development and Land Corporation, Inc., the current property owner, has completed the investigation of the Site and will be conducting remedial action activities in accordance with NJDEP regulatory requirements in order to address the contaminants detected which originate thereon. In addition, an evaluation of receptors in the area has been completed to ensure that the remedy for the Site is appropriate and fully protective of human health and the environment. Additional information can be requested and comments on the remediation, including the proposed remedial plan, are being accepted.
