NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION CHERRY - VALLEY-SPRINGFIELD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, TOWN OF CHERRY VALLEY, SPRINGFIELD, ROSEBOOM, MIDDLEFIELD, DECATUR, OTSEGO, WESTFORD, WARREN, CANAJOHARIE, MINDEN; COUNTIES OF HERKIMER, MONTGOMERY AND OTSEGO, NEW YORK. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Budget Hearing for the inhabitants of the Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School District, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district, will be held in the school building on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 7 PM. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the annual Meeting/Election to vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures, or any propositions involving the expenditure of money, or authorizing a levy of taxes, and or any proposition duly presented in accordance with election Education Law, as well as the election of members of the Board of Education, and the propositions listed below, shall be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the school between the hours of 12 Noon and 8 PM. Proposition I - BUDGET To adopt the budget as presented and to authorize the Board of Education to levy and collect the necessary taxes. Proposition II- BUSES PURCHASE Shall the Board of Education be authorized to purchase two school buses - one sixty-five (65) passenger (diesel) and one thirty (30) passenger with wheelchair (gasoline) with the total cost not to exceed $275,000? The source of the funds shall be a tax upon the taxable property of the District to be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education. Proposition III - USE OF CAPITAL RESERVE MONIES TO FUND AN EQUIPMENT PURCHASE Shall the Board of Education be authorized to appropriate, transfer and utilize $24,000 from the District's “Capital Reserve - Equipment Fund” to fund an equipment purchase consisting primarily of the acquisition of a new Usherwood 8100 copier? NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes shall be prepared and made available, upon request and at the school district offices, at any public library or free association library within the district and on the school district's website to residents within the district during the period of fourteen days immediately preceding the annual meeting and election. Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the District Clerk at the District Office between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, not later than April 20, 2026. The following vacancy is to be filled: five (5) year term, of which there is one (1) seat open, which will expire on June 30, 2031, to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of April Aramini.Each petition must be addressed to the District Clerk, be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District and shall state the name and 911 address of the candidate and 911 address of each signer. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that any proposition that is required to be included for a vote shall be submitted in writing by means of a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters, stating the 911 address of each signer, which petition shall be filed with the Board of Education not later than 30 days before the date of the election set forth in this notice, unless a greater number of days is required by statute, any petition shall be rejected by the Board of Education not later than 30 days before the date of the election set forth in the notice, unless a greater number of days is required by statute. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen years of age or older, and (3) a resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the annual vote and election. NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that applications for early voting or absentee will be obtainable between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time, Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter when the applicant or the applicant's agent appears in the District office to deliver the completed application. Early voting and absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. prevailing time on the day of the election. A list of persons to whom early voting and absentee ballots are issued shall be made and filed in the District Clerk's office and shall be available for public inspection during regular office hours until the day of the election. The District may require all persons offering to vote at any school district meeting or election for which registration is not required to provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law Section 2018-c. Such forms may include a driver's license, a non-driver identification card, a utility bill, or a voter registration card. Upon offer of proof of residency, the School District may also require all persons offering to vote to provide their signature, printed name, and address.
