POLAND CENTRAL SCHOOL Poland, New York 13431 NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING, NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES, And ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Public Budget Hearing for the inhabitants of the Poland Central School District, Herkimer, Oneida and Hamilton Counties, New York, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district, will be held in the auditorium Walker Theater of the Poland Central School, 74 Cold Brook Street, Poland, New York, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. prevailing time for the purpose of transacting such business as is authorized by the Education Law. In the event it is deemed necessary or appropriate to conduct the budget hearing virtually, information will be available on the district's website, www.polandcsd.org, or from the District Clerk at 315-826-0203 OR mwashington@polandcsd.org. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that copies of the detailed statement in writing of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, specifying the several purposes and the amount for each (the proposed budget for the school year 2026-2027) and tax exemption report, may be obtained by any taxpayer in the district during the fourteen days immediately preceding the Annual Vote, except Saturday, Sunday or a Holiday, at the Poland Central School District Office, Poland, New York, during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. prevailing time. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the District at the District Office not later than April 20, 2026, between the hours of eight o'clock a.m. and five o'clock p.m. prevailing time. The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education: One (1) five (5) year term, commencing on July 1, 2026 and ending on June 30, 2031, to fill the seat currently held by Michele Szarek The petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district, must state the residence of each signer, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that voting on the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures for the school year 2026-2027, voting on the election of members of the Board of Education and on any propositions legally submitted including the propositions herein set forth, will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of two o'clock p.m. and eight o'clock p.m. prevailing time in the lobby of the Poland Central School, 74 Cold Brook Street, Poland, New York, in such District. Voting shall be by paper ballot. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that applications for absentee and early mail ballots may be applied for at the office of the clerk of the district. Such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the vote set in this notice if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee or early mail voter or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the absentee or early mail voter. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received in the office of the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the election. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a list of all persons to whom absentee and early mail voters' ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection in the office of the clerk during regular office hours during each of the five days prior to the election, except Sundays, which are between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and such lists will also be posted at the polling place at the election of members of the Board of Education. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 23, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail.
