DERUYTER CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT LEGAL NOTICE Initial Notice of Annual Meeting and Election of the DeRuyter Central School District Notice is given that the Public Budget Hearing of the DeRuyter Central School District for the purpose of discussion of the expenditure and budgeting of funds for the 2026-2027 will be held in the Library/Media Center of the DeRuyter Central School, 711 Railroad Street, DeRuyter, NY on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Notice is also given that the Annual Meeting and Election to vote upon the annual school budget for the school year 2026-2027 and to authorize the levying of a tax upon the taxable property of the District, to elect Board of Education members, and to vote upon such other propositions as may properly come before the meeting and conduct other business as authorized by law, by machine voting, will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the DeRuyter Central School, 711 Railroad Street, DeRuyter, NY between the hours of 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m. in the Large Gym Foyer. Propositions including the annual budget will be voted on. Details of the propositions will be in the remaining legal notices after approval by the Board of Education. Notice is also given that a copy of the statement of the amount of monies required for the 2026-2027 school year for school purposes may be obtained no later than April 24, 2026 at the office of the District Clerk (District Office located in the Annex) maintained , between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each weekday, except Saturday, Sunday, or holiday. Notice is also given that there are two open seats which will be elected at large to succeed Jodi Wiesing and Daniel Degear whose terms of office expire on June 30, 2026 these newly elected seats will commence on July 1, 2026 and expire on June 30, 2029. Notice is also given that the DeRuyter Central School Board of Education has adopted personal voter registration for all eligible voters residing in the DeRuyter Central School District. Any person who is not currently enrolled in the county personal registration shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon the register on the dates noted above provided that at such meetings of the Board of Registration, he or she must present himself or herself personally for registration and upon proving that he or she is entitled to vote in the District, may have his or her name placed on the register at that time. To be entitled to vote in the District, a person must be a citizen of the United States, must be at least eighteen years of age, and must be a resident of the District for a period of thirty (30) days prior to May 19, 2026. The register of voters will be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the District and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on any day when the office is open for business beginning May 14, 2026 and each day prior to the day set for election and at the polling place(s) on the day of the vote. Notice is also given that qualified voters may obtain applications for absentee ballots or an early voting ballot from the office of the Clerk of the School District. Completed applications for absentee or early ballots must be received by the District Clerk of the School District no earlier than May 18, 2026 and no later than 5:00 P.M., on May 19, 2026, and must be received no later than 4:00 P.M., on May 12, 2026 if the absentee or early voting ballot is to be mailed to the voter. Completed applications received after 4:00 P.M. on May 12, 2026, will require the voter to personally appear at the Office of the Clerk of the School District to receive an absentee or early ballot. A listing of all persons to whom an absentee or early ballot is issued will be available for inspection by any qualified voter during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) in the Office of the Clerk of the School District during the 5 business days prior to the election. Notice is also given that military voters who are qualified voters of the School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at 315-852-3400 ext. 7403 or hayes@deruytercentral.org. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 4:00 pm on April 2, 2026 [25 days prior to the vote]. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. Notice is also given that Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law requires the District to attach to its proposed budget and exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how the total assessed value of the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted by statutory authority, and show the cumulative impact of each type of exemption, the cumulative amount expected to be received as payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) and the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted.
