LIVINGSTON COUNTY LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING OF THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF YORK CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Towns of Leicester and York, County of Livingston, New York NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the York Central School District will be held in the Ivan F. Hilfiker Auditorium on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. for the presentation of the budget. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special meeting of the qualified voters of the York Central School District shall be held in said District, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The following propositions will be submitted for voter approval at said meeting: To elect two (2) members of the Board of Education for a 3-year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring June 30, 2029 to succeed: Kara Kane, current term expires on June 30, 2026 Kirsty Northrop, current term expires on June 30, 2026 Proposition No. 1 : To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District. AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the following proposition will be submitted for voter approval at such time: AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District’s budget for the 2026-27 school year, exclusive of public monies, and the tax exemption report may be obtained by any resident of the District at said York Central School during the business hours beginning Friday, May 1, 2026. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office in the York Central School District no later than Monday, April 20, 2026 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District and shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) voters of the District, must state name and residence of each signer. Nominating petitions shall not indicate any specific vacancy as Board vacancies are not considered separate positions. AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots to vote on the propositions may be applied for at the office of the School District Clerk. Any such application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the date of the aforesaid special district meeting if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before such special district meeting if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued shall be available for public inspection in the office of the District Clerk during regular office hours on each of the five days prior to the day of the vote (excluding Saturday and Sunday). An absentee ballot must reach the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of such special district meeting. A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District on and after May 18, 2026 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays prior to the day set for the election, and said list will be posted at the polling place at the election. Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefore known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, that pursuant to Section 2018-e of the Education Law, applications for early mail ballots may be obtained at the Office of the District Clerk of the School District, during all the days in which the School District is in session. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026 and by May 11, 2026, if the early ballot is to be mailed to the voter. If the early ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter at the Office of the District Clerk the completed application must be received by the District Clerk no later than May 18, 2026. No early mail voter’s ballot will be canvassed unless it has been received in the Office of the District Clerk of the School District no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026. A list of all persons to whom early ballots have been issued will be available in the Office of the District Clerk during office hours on and after May 13, 2026 until May 18, 2026, except on Saturday May 16, 2026 and Sunday May 17, 2026, by prearranged appointment. A challenge to an early voting ballot may not be made on the basis that the voter should have applied for an absentee ballot. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at said annual vote and election. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen [18] years of age or older, and (3) a resident within the School District for a period of thirty [30] days preceding the annual vote and election. The School District may require all persons offering to vote at the budget vote and election to provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law Section 2018-c. Such form may include a driver’s license, a non-driver identification card, a utility bill, or an offering to vote to provide their signature, printed name, and address.
