Sagaponack Common School District Legal Notice NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION Sagaponack Common School District Suffolk County, New York NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Sagaponack Common School District, Suffolk County, New York will be held at the school in said District on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items:1. To present the voters a detailed statement (proposed budget) of the amount of money which will be required for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. 2. To discuss all the items hereinafter set forth to be voted upon at the vote and election to be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026. 3. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting pursuant to Education Law of the state of New York and acts amendatory thereto. A copy of the proposed budget shall be made available, upon request, to residents of the School District beginning Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the schoolhouse in the District, 400 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, NY 11962, during school business office hours of 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and on the School District’s website, www.sagaponackschool.com. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and on any website by the District. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the annual vote and election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hour of 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. (one hour) in the Sagaponack Common School District building to vote upon the following items: 1. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027 and to authorize the requisite portion therefore to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District. 2. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that military voters who are qualified voters of the Sagaponack Common School District, may request an application for a military ballot from the District Clerk in person, by mail to Sagaponack School, P.O. Box 1500, 400 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, NY 11962 by email to: clerk@sagaponackschool.com , phone call to 631-537-0651 or fax sent to 631-537-2342. In such request, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application by mail, fax or email. A military voter must return the original military ballot application by mail or in person to the office of the District Clerk at 400 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, NY 11962. In order for a military voter to be issued a military ballot, a valid military ballot application must be received in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m., on April 23, 2026. Military ballot applications received in accordance with the foregoing will be processed in the same manner as a non-military ballot application under Section 2018-b of the Education Law. The application for military ballot may include the military voter’s preference for receipt of the military ballot by mail, fax or email. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, a military voter’s original military ballot must be returned by mail or in person to the office of the District Clerk at 400 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, NY 11962. Military ballots shall be canvassed if they are received by the District Clerk before the close of polls on May 19, 2026 showing a cancellation mark of the United States Postal Service or a foreign country’s postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States Government; or received not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026 and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than the day before the election. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that applications for absentee and early mail ballots will be obtainable during school business hours (8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) from the District Clerk beginning Monday, April 20, 2026 or at www.sagaponackschool.com ; completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. If an applicant delivers an application for an absentee or early mail ballot after May 12, 2026 and not later than the day before the election, the District Clerk shall deliver the absentee or early mail ballot when the applicant appears in the District Clerk’s office on or before May 18, 2026. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. A list of persons to whom absentee and early mail ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the office of the District Clerk on and after Thursday, May 14, 2026 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election and on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the day set for the election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. A challenge to an absentee ballot may not be made on the basis that the voter should have applied for an early mail ballot.
