NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, ANNUAL MEETING, BUDGET AND ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the Board of Education of the South Lewis Central School District, Lewis County, New York, will be held in the South Lewis Central School District building in said District on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. (EDST), for the items to be voted on. The budget will be available for review on May 5, 2026, at the South Lewis School District Office, Turin, New York and at the Constableville Public Library, the Greig Community Library, the Lyons Falls Free Library, the Port Leyden Community Library and at the B. Elizabeth Strong Memorial (Turin) Library. The Tax Exemption Report will also be available for review on May 5, 2026, at the South Lewis District Office, Turin, New York. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the annual meeting of the qualified voters of the South Lewis Central School District, Lewis County, New York, will be held at the South Lewis Central School District building in said District on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of noon and 8:00 p.m. (EDST), at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine upon the following items: 1. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District. 2. To authorize the purchase of four (4) 65-passenger diesel student transportation vehicles and one (1) SUV for student transportation for the fiscal year 2026-2027 and authorize as much as may be necessary to be raised by the levy of the tax upon the taxable property of said school district and collected in annual installments as provided by §416 of the Education Law and in anticipation of such tax, obligations of said school district shall be issued. 3. To elect two members of the Board for a five-year term commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring on June 30, 2031, and to succeed the seats of Mrs. Blake Place and Mrs. Jessica Carpenter, whose terms expire on June 30, 2026. And to elect one member of the Board to a one-year term commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring on June 30, 2027, and to succeed the appointed seat of Mrs. Lucy Austin, seat originally held by Dawn Ludovici, whose term expires on June 30, 2027. Item 1: AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District’s budget for 2026-2027, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the District during business hours beginning Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the South Lewis District Office, Turin, New York. Item 2: AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at the South Lewis School District Office not later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District and shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) voters of the District and must state the name and address of the candidate. Item 3: AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at said annual vote and election. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen years of age or older, (3) a resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding the annual vote and election.
