NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING AND ELECTION OF THE AKRON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the annual meeting and election (“Annual Vote”) of the Akron Central School District, Erie County, New York (the “District”) will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. noon to 9:00 p.m., in the District's High School Gymnasium (orange gym), 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York, for the purposes of (i) voting on the budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, (ii) electing two members of the District's Board of Education (the "Board"), (iii) voting on the acquisition of school buses and related equipment, and (iv) transacting such other business as may be authorized by law. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a public hearing for the voters of the District on the 2026-2027 budget will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 7:00 p.m., in the High School Cafeteria, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Annual Vote will consist of voting on the following propositions, the election of two (2) Board members, and on such propositions as are authorized by law and the rules of the Board to be voted on at said time. PROPOSITION NO. 1 - 2026-2027 BUDGET Shall the following resolution be adopted? RESOLVED, that the budget for the Akron Central School District (the “District”) for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027, as presented by the Board of Education, is hereby approved and adopted, and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated, and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be levied and collected as required by law. PROPOSITION NO. 2 - Acquisition of School Buses (and Related Equipment) Shall the following resolutions be adopted? RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Akron Central School District, Erie, Genesee and Niagara Counties, New York (the “District”), is hereby authorized to purchase school buses and similar vehicles (and related equipment) for use in the transportation program of the District, including two (2) sixty-six (66) passenger buses, at an estimated maximum cost of $176,000 each and two (2) van-type buses, at an estimated maximum cost of $110,000 each, (with such estimated maximum cost reflecting the value of any trade-ins), and to expend therefor an aggregate sum not to exceed $572,000; and be it further RESOLVED, that the sum of $572,000 (which may include certain up-front financing costs), plus an amount for interest thereon, shall be funded by the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the District and collected in annual installments as provided by Section 416 of the Education Law; and be it further RESOLVED, that in anticipation of such tax, bonds or other obligations (including, without limitation, obligations arising under leases, lease/purchase contracts or installment purchase contracts having a term of not more than five years) of the District shall be issued or entered into in accordance with applicable provisions of New York State law; and be it further RESOLVED, that New York State Transportation Aid funds expected to be received by the District are anticipated to offset a substantial part of such costs, and such funds, to the extent received, shall be applied to offset and reduce the amount of taxes herein authorized to be levied. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that an election for members of the Board shall be held to fill two (2) at-large positions on the Board. The candidates receiving the two highest vote totals shall each be elected to three-year terms (commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2029) to fill the vacancies created by the expiration, on June 30, 2026, of the terms of Joseph Cena and Stephanie Coffta. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that all candidates for the office of member of the Board shall be nominated by petition. Each petition shall be directed to the District Clerk, shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District, or 2% of qualified voters who voted in the previous Annual Vote, whichever is greater, shall state the residence of each signer, and shall state the name and residence of the candidate. Each petition must be filed in the office of the District Clerk between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., not later than April 20, 2026. Petition forms may be obtained from the District Clerk in the District Office at 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York, 14001 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., except for Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that electronic voting machines will be used to record the vote on the budget, on all propositions, and on the election of three members of the Board pursuant to the District's Rules for the Use of Voting Machines and the Submission of Questions or Propositions to be Placed Thereon. Printed copies of such Rules are available in the office of the District Clerk, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Board will have prepared and completed a detailed statement in writing of the amount of money which will be required during the 2026-2027 fiscal year for school purposes, specifying the several purposes and the amount for each. The amount for each purpose estimated necessary for payments to Boards of Cooperative Educational Services shall be shown in full, with no deduction of estimated state aid. The amount of state aid provided and its percentage relationship to the total expenditures shall also be shown. Such statement shall be available, upon request, to residents of the District in any district schoolhouse, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., from May 5, 2026 to May 19, 2026, exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that applications for early mail and absentee ballots may be obtained in the office of the District Clerk, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the Annual Vote, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or on the day before Annual Vote, if the ballot is to be personally delivered to the voter. A list of all persons to whom early mail and absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available in the office of the District Clerk, where it shall be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., prevailing time, during the five (5) days prior to the Annual Vote until the day set for voting, except for Saturday, Sundays and holidays, and at the polling place of the Annual Vote. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., on May 19, 2026, to be canvassed and counted. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that military voters who are qualified voters of the District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk by mail to 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York, 14001 or by email at: bjames@akronk12.org. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on April 23, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. Irrespective of the preferred method of transmission designated by a military voter, a military voter's original military ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or in person to the office of the District Clerk at 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York and received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to be canvassed and counted.
