Public Notice BROCTON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, NEW YORK NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING & ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVENthat a public hearing for the qualified voters of the Brocton Central School District, 138 West Main Street, Chautauqua County, New York (the “District”), will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria at the Brocton Central School District, 138 West Main Street, Brocton, New York for the presentation of the District’s proposed 2026-2027 Budget. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the proposed budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, exclusive of public monies, and the tax exemption report will be available for review by any resident of the District during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting and Election (other than a Saturday, Sunday or holiday) as well as the day of the Annual Meeting and Election (the “Annual Meeting and Election”) of the District, at the office of the District Clerk located at 138 West Main Street, Brocton, New York between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVENthat the Annual Meeting and Election of the District, will be held at the Brocton Central School High School Gymnasium, 138 West Main Street, Brocton, New York on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., for the purpose of voting on the election of two (2) members of the Board of Education (the “Board”) and the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of the District for the 2026-2027 school year. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVENthat the voting at the Annual Meeting and Election will consist of voting on the following propositions, as well as such other matters as may be lawfully presented at the meeting. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the qualified voters of the District shall be entitled to vote at said annual meeting and election. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen (18) years of age or older, and (3) a resident within the District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding the annual vote and election. The District may require all persons offering to vote at the annual meeting and election to provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law § 2018-c. Such form may include a driver’s license, a non-driver identification card, a utility bill, or a voter registration card. Upon offer of proof of residency, the District may also require all persons offering to vote to provide their signature, printed name and address. PROPOSITION NO. 1 2026-2027 BUDGET Shall the following resolution be adopted? RESOLVED, that the budget for the Brocton Central School District (the “District”) for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027, as presented by the Board of Education is hereby approved and adopted and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be levied and collected as required by law. Election and Ballot Information NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that all candidates for the office of Member of the Board shall be nominated by petition. Petitions must be filed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the office of the District Clerk at 138 West Main Street, Brocton, New York 14716. Each nominating petition must be directed to the District Clerk, signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, or two percent of the number of voters who voted in the previous Annual Meeting and Election, whichever is greater, and state the name and residence of the candidate and each signer. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the election of members of the Board shall be held to fill two (2) at-large positions on the Board. The candidates receiving the two highest vote totals will each be elected to five (5) year terms (commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2031), to fill the vacancies resulting from the expiration, on June 30, 2026, of the terms of Mrs. Rosanne Chesbro and Mr. Stewart Thompson. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVENthat applications for absentee ballots and early mail ballots may be obtained at the office of the District Clerk. Completed applications for absentee ballots and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 12, 2026, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 2026, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the District Clerk. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots and early mail ballots have been issued will be available in the office of the District Clerk on each of the five (5) days prior to the Annual Meeting and Election (except Sunday), and any qualified voter may inspect such list and challenge the qualifications of any person on such list, by making his/her challenge and the reasons therefor known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls. Absentee ballots and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., on May 19, 2026, to be canvassed and counted. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVENthat military voters who are qualified voters of the District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at (716) 792-2173 or ameans@broctoncsd.org. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid military ballot application no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 23, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission, or electronic mail. Irrespective of the preferred method of transmission designated by a military voter, a military voter’s original military ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or in person to the office of the District Clerk at 138 West Main Street, Brocton, New York, and the ballot received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to be canvassed and counted.
