NOTICE OF CHAZY CENTRAL RURAL SCHOOL ANNUAL MEETING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Budget Hearing of the qualified voters of the Chazy Central Rural School District, Clinton County, Chazy, New York will be held at the school in said district on May 12, 2026 at 7:00 p.m., for the purpose of hearing the report of the Board of Education and the transaction of such other business that may properly come before said meeting. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that voting on (i) the proposed budget for the 2026-27 school year which will appear on the ballot as Proposition No.1, (ii) the increase of the annual appropriation of the Chazy Public Library through a levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the said district which will appear on the ballot as Proposition No. 2, (iv) the election of the members of the Board of Education; and (vi) the transaction of such other business as is authorized by law, all as further described herein, will take place at the Annual District Meeting and Election of the School District on May 19, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the school in the School District. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that in addition to the proposed School District budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year and school year, which will appear on the ballot as Proposition No. 1, the following propositions will be submitted to the voters: Proposition No. 2 Shall the Board of Education of the Chazy Central Rural School District be authorized to raise, by levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the School District in accordance with Section 259 of the Education Law, a sum not to exceed $39,000.00 for the purpose of supporting the Chazy Public Library? NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District's budget for 2026-27, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident or taxpayer of the District during the fourteen days immediately preceding the Annual District Meeting and Election except Saturday, Sunday and holidays, at the District Office during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that an election will be held for the purpose of electing two Board of Education members of said District. Two seats for the term of four years each to succeed the seat of Jason Bruce and Craig Giroux whose terms will expire. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk at the Chazy Central Rural School, no later than April 20, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. Each petition must be signed by at least twenty-five qualified voters of the district, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. Petition forms are available at the District office. NOTICE IS GIVEN that Absentee ballots may be applied for at the District office. The District Clerk must receive applications for absentee ballots at least seven days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; on or prior to May 5, 2026, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. The District Clerk must receive Absentee Ballots no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026. A list of all persons to whom absentee Ballots shall have been issued will be available in the School District office and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the school district during regular office hours on each of the five days prior to the vote, and such list shall also be posted at the voting place during the election. Any qualified voter may challenge the acceptance of the ballot of any person on such list, by making his/her challenge and reason therefore known to the Inspector of the Election before the close of the polls. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at the said annual vote and election. A qualified voter is one who is (i) a citizen of the United States, (ii) eighteen years of age or older, (iii) a resident within the District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding Annual District Meeting and Election. The School District may require all persons offering to vote at the Annual District Meeting and Election to provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law #20018-c. Such forms may include a driver's license, a non-driver identification card, a utility bill, or a voter registration card. Upon offer of proof of residency, the School District may also require all persons to provide their signature, printed name and address. AND NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that you must be a registered voter to vote at the Annual District Meeting and Election. A person may register in the District office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. between April 20, 2026 and April 24, 2026. The register shall be filed in the School District office of the School District and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the School District from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. prevailing time on each of the five days prior to the vote, except Saturday, May 16, 2026, and Sunday, May 17, 2026. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the vote to increase the annual appropriation in support of the Chazy Public Library to a sum not to exceed $39,000.00 and to levy the necessary tax therefore will also take place. NOTICE IS HEREBY BEING GIVEN that the School District Clerk is hereby authorized to amend the notice of the Annual District Meeting and Election from time to time, as, in his discretion, such amendment might be required.
