LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND VOTE ON THE 2026-2027 ANNUAL BUDGET, SEPARATE PROPOSITIONS AND ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE JAMESVILLE-DEWITT CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on May 11, 2026, commencing at 7:00 p.m., the Board of Education (the “Board”) of the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District (the “District”) will conduct a public hearing at the Jamesville-DeWitt High School Large Group Room located at 6845 Edinger Drive in the Town of DeWitt, New York for the purpose of discussing the statement of the amount of money which will be required for school purposes for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, specifying the several purposes and the amount for each (the “Budget”). NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that detailed copies of the Budget, together with the appendages required by Section 1716 of the Education Law and the text of any proposition that will be presented to the voters, may be obtained by any taxpayer of the District at the Office of the Clerk of the District (the “District Clerk”) located at 6845 Edinger Drive, DeWitt, New York, at each schoolhouse in the District, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on any day during the fourteen (14) day period immediately preceding May 19, 2026, other than a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, at the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville and on the District’s website at http://www.jamesvilledewitt.org/ . NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN in accordance with Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law that the District shall prepare a Real Property Tax Exemption Report (the “Exemption Report”) which shall show how much of the assessed value on the final assessment roll (utilized for the school tax levy) is exempt from taxation by the District. The Exemption Report will list every type of exemption granted and will show: (1) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption; (2) the cumulative amount expected to be received as payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTS), or other payments, from recipients of each type of exemption; and (3) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The Exemption Report will be posted on the District’s website and on District bulletin boards utilized for posting public notices. The Exemption Report will be annexed to any preliminary District budget and shall become part of the final budget. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that voting, by voting machines, will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the polling place hereinafter specified, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. thereof, upon the matters hereinafter set forth: (1) To elect three (3) members of the Board to fill the following vacancies: For a three-year term – Incumbent, John Baxter For a three-year term – Incumbent, David Babikian For a three year term – Incumbent, Renee James Murad (2) To vote upon the adoption of the District’s 2026-2027 budget, which will appear as Proposition No. 1 on District voting machines. (3) To vote upon the adoption of a proposition to purchase school buses as set forth below, which will appear as Proposition No. 2 on District voting machines. PROPOSITION #2 – PURCHASE OF SCHOOL BUSES Shall the Board of Education (“Board”) of the Jamesville‑DeWitt Central School District (“District”) be authorized to purchase school buses for a combined maximum estimated expenditure of $837,993, and to obtain the necessary funds by the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the District, to be collected in annual installments in the years and in the amounts as the Board shall determine in accordance with Section 416 of the Education Law, and, in anticipation of such tax, to issue up to $837,993 of obligations of the District? (4) To vote upon the adoption of a proposition for the annual appropriation for the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville, which will appear as Proposition No. 3 on District voting machines. PROPOSITION #3 – ANNUAL APPROPRIATION FOR COMMUNITY LIBRARY Shall the Board of Education of the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District (“District”) levy and collect a tax in the amount of $1,688,580 for the support of the Community Library of Dewitt & Jamesville, pursuant to Section 259 of the Education Law? NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that candidates for the office of members of the Board shall be nominated by petition, and that a separate petition is required to nominate each candidate. Every petition must (i) be directed to the District Clerk; (ii) be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District or 2% of the number of voters who signed the register of voters in the previous annual election of the Board, whichever is greater, with such number to be determined by the number of persons recorded on the register of voters at such election; (iii) state the residence of each signer and the name and residence of the candidate; and (iv) be filed with the office of the District Clerk at 6845 Edinger Drive in the Town of DeWitt, New York, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. local time, daily, and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026. Petition forms may be obtained from the office of the District Clerk at the District Office Building. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that to be a “qualified voter” a person must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and a legal resident of the District for a period of thirty (30) days immediately prior to May 19, 2026, and not otherwise prohibited from voting under the provisions of section 5-106 of the Election Law. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the polling place where the vote and election will take place is as follows: Jamesville-DeWitt High School Gymnasium 6845 Edinger Drive DeWitt, New York 13214 Directions to this polling place may be obtained from the office of the District Clerk during normal business hours. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that pursuant to Section 2018-f of the Education Law, qualified voters of the District may obtain applications for an early mail ballot from the Office of the District Clerk. A completed early mail ballot “application” must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026 and at least seven (7) days before the May 19, 2026 vote (i.e., by May 12, 2026) if the early mail ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the May 19, 2026 vote (i.e., May 18, 2026) if the early mail ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. No early mail voter’s “ballot” will be canvassed, unless it is received in the office of the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026, the day of the vote. In accordance with Section 2018-f(7) of the New York Education Law, a listing of all persons to whom an early mail ballot is issued will be available for public inspection in the Office of the District Clerk during regular office hours until the day of the vote. A challenge to an early voting ballot may not be made on the basis that the voter should have applied for an absentee ballot. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots for the election may be obtained at the office of the District Clerk. A completed absentee ballot “application” must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026 and at least seven (7) days before the May 19, 2026 vote (i.e. by May 12, 2026) if the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the May 19, 2026 vote (i.e. May 18, 2026) if the absentee ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. No absentee voter’s “ballot” will be canvassed unless it is received in the office of the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026 the day of the vote. In accordance with Section 2018-a(6) of the Education Law, a listing of all the persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available for public inspection in the office of the District Clerk during regular office hours until the day of the vote. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Such written challenge shall be transmitted by the District Clerk to the inspectors of election on the date of the vote. Military voters may request an application to register as a qualified voter from the District Clerk. Military voter registration application forms must be received in the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 23, 2026. In order for a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District must have received in the office of the school district clerk a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on April 23, 2026.
