Legal 2193067901 EAST ISLIP UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT TOWN OF ISLIP, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK NOTICE OF ANNUAL BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION DATE: The annual budget and election of the East Islip Union Free School District will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M. prevailing time at the John V. Dolan, District Offices Building, 1 Craig B. GariepyAvenue, Islip Terrace, New York. BUDGET HEARING/INSPECTION: A public hearing on the proposed budget of the school district will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the John V. Dolan, District Offices Building at 7:00 P.M. A statement of estimated expenses for the ensuing year will be completed and copies made available, together with the text of any resolution which will be presented to the voters upon the request of any taxpayer, at each of the Districts schools during business hours commencing on May 5, 2026. A Real Property Tax Exemption Report prepared in accordance with Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law will be annexed to any tentative/preliminary budget as well as the final adopted budget of which it will form a part; and shall be posted on District bulletin board(s) maintained for public notices, as well as on the District's website. VOTING: Voting on voting machines will be held on the budget proposition and School Board Trustee position(s) as set forth below and such other matters as may properly come before the voters. PROPOSITION #1 SHALL the following proposition be adopted, to wit: "RESOLVED that the budget of the East Islip Union Free School District of the Town of Islip, Suffolk County, New York, for the fiscal year 2026/2027 as proposed by the Board of Education in accordance with Section 1716 of the Education Law shall be approved and a tax levied therefor upon the taxable property of said School District." POSITIONS Last Incumbent: Jessica Ciampi Term: 7/1/2026 6/30/2029 Last Incumbent: Christopher Zachry Term: 7/1/2026 6/30/2029 PROPOSITION #2 SHALL the Board of Education of the East Islip Union Free School District be authorized to expend a sum not to exceed $1,400,000.00 from the capital reserve fund established on May 17, 2016, known as the "2015/16 Capital Reserve Fund" for the following purpose(s): the purchase and installation of permanent power generators at East Islip High School and limber Point Elementary School including all ancillary and incidental work required to be performed in connection with said project? PROPOSITION #3 SHALL the Board of Education of the East Islip Union Free School District be authorized to transfer a sum not to exceed $1,800,000 from the capital reserve fund established on May 17, 2016, known as the "2015/16 Capital Reserve Fund" to the capital reserve fund known as the "2023/24 Capital Reserve Fund" previously established on May 21, 2024? Said funds shall be used for the purposes set forth in the previously established "2023/24 Capital Reserve Fund: to wit: masonry renovation, plumbing upgrades, electrical upgrades, mechanical upgrades, technology upgrades, telecommunication and PA systems upgrades, ceiling tile replacement, flooring upgrades, roof replacement on District buildings, door replacement, window replacement, site work, including but not limited to athletic field renovations, paving, curbs and sidewalks, renovation/reconstruction of interior and exterior instructional spaces, gymnasium spaces and non-instructional spaces, abatement of hazardous materials and/or the purchase of furnishings/equipment. NOMINATING PETITIONS: Candidates for the position of School Board Trustee will be nominated by petition which must state the name and residence of the candidate and must describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including the length of the term of the office and the name of the last incumbent. Such petitions shall be signed by at least 47 qualified voters of the school district and must be filed with the District Clerk between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. no later than Monday, April 20, 2026. VOTER REGISTRATION: Registration for this Annual Budget Vote and Election will be held at the following time and place: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the John V. Dolan, District Offices Building, 1 Craig B. GariepyAvenue, Islip Terrace, New York. At the above place and time, the Board of Registration will meet to prepare registers of the qualified voters. Any person shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon such register, provided that at such meeting he or she is known or proved to the satisfaction of such Board, to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the school meeting or election for which such register is made. Voters who have registered and voted in any school meeting or election conducted during the four calendar years prior to the year in which the Register is being prepared and/or those registered and eligible to vote pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law need not register again to be eligible to vote. Only persons who are registered with the school district or who are qualified to vote pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law will be permitted to vote. The register will be open for inspection at the District Clerk's office upon completion and on the five days prior to the Budget Vote and Election during regular business hours and on Saturday, May 16, 2026, between the hours of 11:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. ABSENTEE OR EARLY MAIL BALLOTS: Applications for absentee or early mail ballots may be made at the District Clerk's office. An application must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than thirty (30) days before the election for which an absentee or early mail ballot is sought. To obtain a ballot by mail completed applications must be received by the Office of the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election. The absentee or early mail ballot will be mailed to the address set forth in the application, no later than six (6) days before the election. To obtain a ballot in person (applicant or his or her agent), the completed application must be delivered to the Office of the District Clerk no later than the day before the election. A list of all persons to whom absentee and early mail ballots shall have been issued will be available in the District Clerk's office on the five days prior to the day of the vote during business hours. In order to be canvassed, an absentee or early mail voter's ballot must have been received in the District Clerk's office by 5:00 P.M. on the day of the vote. MILITARY BALLOTS: Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the school district. Military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may submit an application for a military ballot. Military voters may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for such registration, ballot application or ballot. Military voter registration application forms and military ballot applications must be received in the Office of the District Clerk by mail or in person by no later than 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2026. No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is returned by mail or in person and (1) received in the Office of the District Clerk before the dose of the polls on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the United States Postal Service or a foreign country's postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government; or (2) received by the Office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 P.M. on election day and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is associated to be not later than the day before the election. POLL WATCHING: The following regulations will be in effect regarding poll watching: Poll watchers shall be required to identify themselves to the District Clerk no less than seventy-two (72) hours prior to the election at which time they will be provided with an identification tag indicating "Poll Watcher. Such previously identified poll watchers shall sign in with the District Clerk or her designee upon arrival at the polling place. One (1) poll watcher for each election district will be permitted per candidate or organization at any given time. Poll watchers will not be permitted behind the voting machines at any time during voting hours. An area with a full view of the polls will be designated for poll watchers. Following the recording of the vote by the District Clerk and inspectors of election, poll watchers will be permitted time to view the voting machines prior to the custodian from the Suffolk Board of Elections locking the machines.
