NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION OF THE LAURENS FIRE DISTRICT ON MAY 19, 2026 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, pursuant to a resolution adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Laurens Fire District, in the Town of Laurens, County of Otsego, State of New York, on April 8, 2026, a Special Election of the qualified voters of said Fire District will be held at the Laurens Town Hall located at 37 Brook Street, Laurens, New York on May 19, 2026, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM (prevailing time) for the purpose of enabling said qualified voters to cast their votes upon the following Propositions: PROPOSITION NO. 1 SHALL the resolution of the Laurens Fire District adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of said District on April 8, 2026, which resolution provides for purchasing, outfitting, and equipping one (1) new 2026 Pumper Truck, and providing that the cost of such item shall not exceed $615,000.00, to be paid for by expending a sum not to exceed $100,000.00 from the Capital Reserve Fund of the Fire District and by borrowing a sum not to exceed $515,000.00 by way of an installment sales agreement for a term of up to six (6) years, for the purpose of and providing for the levy of a tax to be collected to pay the principal and interest on said borrowing, such principal and interest to be excluded from the statutory spending limitation of said Fire District, BE APPROVED? PROPOSITION NO. 2 SHALL the resolution of the Laurens Fire District adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of said District on April 8, 2026, which resolution provides for purchasing, outfitting, and equipping one (1) new 2026 Ambulance, and providing that the cost of such item shall not exceed $225,000.00, to be paid for by expending a sum not to exceed $100,000.00 in Ambulance Revenue funds and by borrowing a sum not to exceed $125,000.00 by way of an installment sales agreement for a term of up to four (4) years, for the purpose of and providing for the levy of a tax to be collected to pay the principal and interest on said borrowing, such principal and interest to be excluded from the statutory spending limitation of said Fire District, BE APPROVED? All residents of the Fire District who shall have resided in the Fire District for the period of thirty days next preceding the day of the Special Election and who were duly registered with the Otsego County Board of Elections on or before 23 days prior to the date of the Special Election shall be eligible to vote at said Special Election. Please be advised that the Board of Elections of the Fire District shall meet on May 12, 2026 at 10:00AM at the town hall for the purpose of preparing the rolls of the registered voters of the Fire District.
