Legal Notice # 21927177 NOTICE OF ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTION AND BUDGET VOTE LONGWOOD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the public information hearing of the qualified voters of the Longwood Central School District, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, will be held at Longwood Middle School, 41 Yaphank Middle Island Road, Middle Island, New York, in said district on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of such business as is authorized by the education law, including the following items: 1. To receive such reports of the officials of the school district as shall be submitted. 2. To discuss all of the items herein set forth, to be voted upon by voting machine, at the election to be held on May 19, 2026, as hereinafter set forth. 3. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting, pursuant to the Education Law of the State of New York, and acts amendatory thereto. To vote upon the following proposition: 1) RESOLVED, that the budget of the Longwood Central School District of the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, for the fiscal year 2026/2027 proposed by the Board of Education in accordance with 1716 of the education law, shall be approved and a tax levied therefor upon the taxable property of said school district. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for absentee and early mail ballots for the election of members of the board of education, the adoption of the annual budget and referenda may be made at the office of the district clerk. Applications for absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than thirty (30) days before the election. Furthermore, such application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or his/her designated agent. Upon receiving a timely request for a mailed absentee or early mail ballot, the District Clerk will mail the ballot to the address set forth in the application by no later than six (6) days before the vote. A list of all persons to whom absentee and early mail ballots shall have been issued will be available in the office of the district clerk on each of the five days prior to the day of the election except Sunday. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the school district. Military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may submit an application for a military ballot. Military voters may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for such registration, ballot application or ballot. Military voter registration forms and military ballot application forms must be received in the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 24, 2026. No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is (1) received in the Office of the District Clerk before the close of the polls on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country's postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government; or (2) received by the Office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 p.m. on election day and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is associated to be not later than the day before the election. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the board of education shall be filed with the clerk of said school district at her office, Central Administration Offices, Longwood Central Schools, 35 Yaphank Middle Island Road, Middle Island, New York 11953 not later than Monday, April 20, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. prevailing time. Vacancies on the board of education are not considered separate specific offices. Nominating petitions must be signed by at least (32) qualified voters of the district, must state the name and residence of each signer, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to 2014 of the education law or pursuant to article 5 of the election law. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant to 2014 of the education law and has voted at any annual or special district meeting within the past four years or if such voter is eligible to vote pursuant to article 5 of the election law, such voter is also eligible to vote at this election. The Board of Registry will meet for the purpose of registering all qualified voters of the district pursuant to 2014 of the education law. Voters may register any school day at all district schools, the Central Administration Office, Longwood Central Schools, 35 Yaphank Middle Island Road, Middle Island, New York, and the Office of the District Clerk at the Central Administration Office, Longwood Central Schools, 35 Yaphank Middle Island Road, Middle Island, NY through Thursday, May 14, 2026 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., prevailing time, at which time any person will be entitled to have his name placed on such registers, provided that such person be proven to the satisfaction of the board of registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at such public meeting or election for which such registers are prepared. The registers so prepared pursuant to 2014 of the education law of the State of New York and the registration list prepared by the Board of Elections of Suffolk County will be filed in the office of the clerk of the school district, Central Administration Office, Longwood Central Schools, 35 Yaphank Middle Island Road, Middle Island, NY and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the district on and after Thursday, May 14, 2026, and each day thereafter prior to the day set for the annual election, except Sundays; between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday by appointment. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to 2017 of the Education Law of the State of New York, the board of education has divided the Longwood Central School District into four (4) election districts, said districts being described as follows: Election District No. 1: Coram Elementary School. All those portions of the Longwood Central School District having U.S. Postal Service zip codes 11763, 11727, 11766 Election District No. 2: West Middle Island Elementary School. All those portions of the Longwood Central School District having U.S. Postal Service zip code 11953, 11764. Election District No. 3: Ridge Elementary School.
