Legal 2193154901 NOTICE OF ANNUAL DISTRICT MEETING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER MONTAUK UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT MONTAUK, NEW YORK NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Budget Hearing of the qualified voters of the Montauk Union Free School District for purposes of discussing the Annual District Budget of the Montauk Union Free School District of the Town of East Hampton, Suffolk County, New York, for the fiscal year July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2031 will be held at the Montauk Public School, 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk, New York, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that voting will take place on Tuesday, May 19 , 2026, between the hours of 2:00 P.M. and 8:00 PM., in the gymnasium of the Montauk Public School, 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk, New York, upon appropriations of necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures for the fiscal year July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, involving the expenditure of money and authorizing the levy of taxes upon the taxable real property of the Montauk Union Free School District, the election of a member of the Board of Education of the Montauk Union Free School District, and such other propositions presented to the voters, more specifically as follows: 1. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2026 - 2027, as follows: RESOLVED, that the proposed budget of expenditures of the Montauk Union Free School District for the school year 2026-27 in the amount, and for the purposes shown in the statement of estimated expenditures adopted by the Board of Education, be and the same hereby is approved and the amount thereof shall be raised by a levy of a tax upon the taxable property of the School District, after first deducting the monies available from State Aid and other sources as provided by Law. 2. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education for a term commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring June 30, 2031. The vacancy to be filled on the Board of Education is as follows: Name of Last Incumbent: Nick Finazzo 3. Repair Reserve Proposition RESOLVED, in accordance with General Municipal Law 6-d that the Board of Education of the Montauk Union Free School District be and hereby is authorized to establish a Repair Reserve Fund and to initially fund the reserve with up to $750,000 of unreserved unappropriated fund balance from the 2025-2026 fiscal year and thereafter by budgetary appropriation and/or application of unreserved unappropriated surplus. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that copies of the Annual Budget Statement of Estimated Expenditures for the 2026- 27 fiscal year will be available to any resident at the Administration Office, Montauk Public School, 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk, New York, during business hours, 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. each day, on the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the date of the Election, except Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, and shall be available on the day of the Election at the polling place. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that Petitions nominating candidates for the office of Member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District at the Montauk Public School, 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk, New York, not later than April 20, 2026, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 5:00P.M. Each vacancy upon the Board of Education to be filled shall be considered a separate specific office. A separate petition shall be required to nominate a candidate to a separate office. Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, shall state the residence of each signer and the name and residence of the candidate, and shall describe the spedfic vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including at least the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that questions or propositions to be placed on the ballot at the annual election must be signed by twenty-five (25) qualified voters and filed with the District Clerk not later than April 20, 2026 by 5:00 P.M. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee or early mail ballots may be applied for at the office of the District Clerk between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, except holidays. Applications for absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than thirty (30) days before the election. Furthermore, such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or his/her designated agent. Upon receiving a timely request for a mailed absentee or early mail ballot, the District Clerk will mail the ballot to the address set forth in the application by no later than six (6) days before the vote. No absentee or early mail voter's ballot will be canvassed unless it has been received in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 P.M. on the day of the election. A list of all persons to whom absentee and early ballots shall have been issued will be available at the office of the District Clerk between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on each of the five (5) days prior to the date of the election, except Sundays, and holidays, and that such list will also be posted at the polling place. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the school district. Military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may submit an application for a military ballot. Military voters may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for such registration, ballot application or ballot. Military voter registration forms and military ballot application forms must be received in the office of the District Clerk of the school district no later than 5:00 P.M. on April 23 2026. No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is (1) received in the office of the District Clerk before the close of the polls on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country's postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government; or (2) received by the office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 P.M. on election day and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is assodated to be not later than the day before the election. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN any person, otherwise qualified to vote, who is currently registered to vote in a federal, state or local election, will be entitled to vote without further registration with the school district's board of registration. Those persons not so duly registered to vote, shall, pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law, personally register to vote, and no person shall be entitled to vote at the Annual District meeting of the district whose name does not appear on the register of the district. The Board of Registration of said school district will meet in the District Office of the school building, 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk, New York, on May 6, 2025 between the hours of 1:30-5:30 PM (prevailing time), at which said place and time said Board of Registration will prepare the register of the said school district, and any person shall have his name placed on said register who presents himself personally to said Board, provided that at such meeting of the Board of Registration, he is known or proven to the satisfaction of such Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at such district meeting or election for which such register is prepared. The register so prepared shall also include all persons who shall have presented themselves personally for registration in accordance herewith, and all persons who shall have been previously registered hereunder for any annual or special meeting or election, and who shall have voted at any annual or special meeting or any election held or conducted at any time within four (4) calendar years prior to the preparation of the register. The Register shall be filed in the office of the District Clerk, located at 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk, New York, in said school district, and such registration will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of said district between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on each of the five (5) days prior to and the date set for said Annual District meeting and vote, except on Sunday.
