FRANKLIN COUNTY PUBLIC NOTICE SARANAC LAKE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN , that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Saranac Lake Central School District, will be held in the Library (Door #13) at the Saranac Lake Central High School in said District on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the presentation of the budget. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a vote and election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. prevailing time, in the District Offices located near the Auditorium of the High School Building (Door #5), 79 Canaras Avenue, Saranac Lake, New York, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine upon the following items: To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2026-27, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District. * Propositions 1-2, listed further down in this announcement. * To elect one member of the Board of Education to one (1) three-year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring June 30, 2029. * To elect one member of the Board of Education to one (1) three-year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring June 30, 2029. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a copy of the Statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District’s budget for 2026-27, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the District during business hours, beginning Friday, May 1, 2026 except Saturday, Sunday or holidays, at the District Office, 79 Canaras Avenue, Saranac Lake, New York, and at each of the following schools between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Saranac Lake High School, Petrova Avenue School and Bloomingdale School. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at the District Office, 79 Canaras Avenue, Saranac Lake, New York, not later than Monday, April 20, 2026 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Vacancies on the Board of Education are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at large. Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated, must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, must state the name and residence of each signed, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that qualified voters of the District may obtain applications for an absentee ballot or an early voting ballot from the office of the Clerk of the District. Completed applications must be received by the Clerk of the District no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 12, 2026 and must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026 if the absentee ballot or an early voting ballot is to be mailed to the voter. Completed applications received after 4:00 p.m. on May 12, 2026 will require the voter to personally appear at the office of the Clerk of the District to receive an absentee ballot or an early voting ballot. A listing of all persons to whom an absentee ballot or an early voting ballot is issued will be available for inspection by any qualified voter in the office of the Clerk of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. during each of the 5 business days prior to the election. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that military ballots may be applied for by qualified voters by requesting an application from the District Clerk at 518-891-1408 or pollockgin@slcs.org. Completed applications for military ballots must be received by the Clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on April 21, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that personal registration of voters is required pursuant to 2014 of the Education Law. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant to 2014 of the Education Law and has voted at an annual or special district meeting within the last four (4) calendar years, he/she is eligible to vote under Article 5 of the Election Law, he/she is also eligible to vote at this election. All other persons who wish to vote must register with the Board of Elections. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that pursuant to 2014 of the Education Law of the State of New York, the Board of Registration will meet during the election of such district on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the place where such election is held at the Saranac Lake High School to prepare the Register of the School District to be used at the election to be held in 2026 and any special district meetings that may be held after the preparation of said Register. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that pursuant to a rule adopted by the Board of Education in accordance with 2035 and 2008 of the Education Law, any referenda or propositions to amend the budget, or otherwise to be submitted for voting at said election, must be filed with the Board of Education at the District Offices, 79 Canaras Avenue, Saranac Lake, New York on or before April 20, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., prevailing time; must be typed or printed in the English language; must be directed to the Clerk of the School District; must be signed by at least fifty-two (52) qualified voters of the District; and must state the name and residence of each signer. However, the School Board will not entertain any proposition if the purpose of the proposition is not within the power of the voters or where the expenditure of monies is required by the proposition and the proposition fails to include the necessary specific appropriation. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at said election, the following propositions will be submitted to the voters as follows: PROPOSITION 1 (TRANSPORTATION BUSES/VEHICLES) Shall the Board of Education of the Saranac Lake Central School District be authorized to purchase two (2) student transportation vehicles, including necessary furnishings, fixtures and equipment and all other costs incidental thereto, and expend a total sum not to exceed $360,000 which is estimated to be the total maximum cost thereof, and pay for such vehicles by using $360,000 from the Transportation Reserve Fund? PROPOSITION 2 (SARANAC LAKE FREE LIBRARY TAX LEVY) Shall the Saranac Lake Central School District levy and collect a tax, pursuant to section 259 of the Education Law of the State of New York, in the sum of $558,989 for the continuing support and maintenance of the free library services offered to District residents by the Saranac Lake Free Library historically supported by the residents of the Saranac Lake Central School District?
