Notice of Budget Hearing and Vote - Waverly Central School District NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING AND VOTE Waverly Central School District Budget Hearing A budget hearing for the inhabitants of the Waverly Central School District qualified to vote at School District meetings will be held in the Middle School Learning Commons, One Frederick Street, Waverly NY 14892, commencing at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, where there shall be presented the proposed School District budget for the following school year. Date of Vote The vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures or for any propositions involving the expenditure of money or the authorizing of levy of taxes, as well as the election of members of the Board of Education shall be held on Tuesday May 19, 2026, at the Waverly High School of Waverly Central School District, One Frederick Street, Waverly NY between the hours of Noon and 8:00p.m. Statement of Money Required for Next School Year A copy of the statement of the amount of money which would be required for the next school year for school purposes shall be completed seven days before the budget hearing and may be obtained by any resident of the district at each schoolhouse during the period of 14 days immediately before the annual meeting and election, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., except Saturday, Sunday, or holiday. Vote for Board Members Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District between the hours of 9:00a.m. and 5:00p.m. not later than April 20, 2026, at 5:00p.m. Each petition must be directed to the District Clerk, be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district and shall state the name and physical address of the candidate and the name and physical address of each signer. The following propositions shall be voted upon at the same time as the vote upon the appropriation of monies and for Board members: PROPOSITION I To adopt the annual budget of the Waverly Central School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District. PROPOSITION II Shall the Board of Education be authorized to enter into a lease for (3) 66-passenger buses for an annual cost not to exceed $125,000 per year for a maximum of five years, at a total cost of $625,000.00, for the leasing and financing of the buses? The source of the funds shall be a tax upon the taxable property of the district to be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education. Additional Propositions Any proposition that is required to be included for vote shall be submitted in writing by means of a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters, stating the residence of each signer, which proposition shall be filed with the Board of Education not later than 30 days before the date of the election as set forth in this notice unless a greater number of days is required by statute. Any proposition shall be rejected by the Board of Education if the purpose of the proposition is not within the powers of the voters or where the expenditure of monies is required for the proposition, and such proposition fails to include the necessary specific appropriation. The District reserves the right to alter the language of a proposition in order to ensure compliance and conformity with the law. Absentee Ballots/Early Ballots/Military BallotsAND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for early mail and absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk. Completed applications for early mail and absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, May 12, 2026; or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter, May 18, 2026. Early mail and absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026. A list of all persons to whom early mail and absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available in the office of the District Clerk from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. prevailing time on each of the five (5) days prior to the day of the election, except weekends, and on the day set for the election. Military voters who are qualified voters of the School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at 607-565-2841 Ext. 1030 or bbronson@wcsdletsgo.com. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on April 23, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. The military voter must, however, return his/her original military ballot application and military ballot by mail or in person. The Clerk of the Board shall transmit the military voter's military ballot in accordance with the military voter's preferred method of transmission not later than 25 days before the vote, April 24, 2026. The Clerk of the Board must then receive the military voter's military ballot by mail or in person not later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote.
