University of Florida seeks claimants for archaeological collection loan termination.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Florida Statute 267.0723, that the UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA-FLORIDA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY (UF-FLMNH) has custody of a holding or collection on loan, that was acquired from several properties located in Lee County, Florida. The collection consists of archaeological materials. The UF-FLMNH has not identified a potential owner. The UF-FLMNH wishes to terminate this loan effective 5/5/2026. Potential claimants of this property must contact the NAGPRA office at 352-273-1943 or nagpraoffice@floridamuseum.ufl.edu to discuss specific details of the location and to collect or donate this collection within 90 days of the publication of this notice. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of ownership of this property. Site 1: Boca Grande, Lee County, Florida (Reference Acc. 88-25), near Snail Island Court and recovered in 1988. Site 2: Bokeelia, Lee County, Florida (References Acc. 90-2; 90-13; 90-20), near Waterfront Drive and recovered in 1990. Site 3: Sanibel Island, Lee County, Florida (Reference Acc. 91-32), near Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and recovered in 1991. Site 4: Town of Fort Myers Beach, Lee County, Florida (Reference Acc. 95-24), acquired from what is now Mound House Museum on prpropertywned by the Long Family and recovered in the1990s. Site 5: St James City, Lee County, Florida (Reference Acc. 2001-139 to 2001-147), from 2001-2002. Site 6: unknown location, Lee County, Florida (Reference Acc. 2014-9), property located at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River on Mike Tyrees abandoned property. February 4, 11, 2026 LC6142
