THE WHATCOM COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION WILL HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING ON THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. REGARDING: Review and adoption of Appendix K (Adequate Provisions Checklist for Housing Availability) of the Comprehensive Plan; associated proposed code amendments to Whatcom County Code Title 20 (Zoning) relating to housing within Urban Growth Areas and Limited Areas of More Intensive Rural Development; and a proposed Zoning Map amendment to remove the "Mineral Resource Lands Special District" overlay on Lummi Island while retaining the underlying Rural Forestry zoning designation. Every 10 years, as part of the periodic update, RCW 36.70A.130(1) requires Whatcom County to take legislative action to review and, if needed, revise its comprehensive plan and development regulations to comply with the Growth Management Act requirements codified in RCW 36.70A. These proposed amendments are part of the periodic review under the Growth Management Act.
