NOTICE AND SUMMARY ORDINANCE 698 Notice is hereby given that on March 9, 2026, the City Council of the City of Lafayette will consider the adoption of Ordinance 698. This meeting will take place at 7pm in the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, Don Tatzin Community Hall, 3491 Mount Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, California. Ordinance 698 of the City Council of the City of Lafayette recommends municipal code revisions necessary to adopt the (1) 2025 California Building Code; (2) 2025 California Residential Code; (3) 2025 California Electrical Code; (4) 2025 California Mechanical Code; (5) 2025 California Plumbing Code; (6) 2025 California Energy Code; (7) 2025 California Historical Building Code; (8) 2025 California Existing Building Code; (9) 2025 California Green Building Standards Code; and (10) Contra Costa County Ordinance No. 2025-19, with changes, additions and deletions (Ordinance No. 698). The amendments will be made to Title 3 Building Regulations, Chapter 3-3 California Building Standards Codes of the Lafayette Municipal Code and include the following adoption of 2025 California Building Standards Code and local changes, additions, and deletions to statewide code including: Requirement to install smoke detectors in existing flat roof buildings when a pitched roof is added on top of the existing flat roof and the solid sheathing of the flat roof is not removed. Requirement that most wood shakes or shingles used for exterior wall covering to be fire treated. Limits to where unreinforced concrete can be used. Prohibition on braced wall panels that use gypsum wallboard and restriction on the use of braced wall panels that use Portland Cement Plaster to single- and two-family dwellings of only one story. Additional requirements for electric vehicle parking spaces by increasing the number of designated electric vehicle parking spaces that must have fully functional charging equipment for multifamily residential buildings and non-residential buildings other than office and retail buildings. Imposes more restrictive construction waste reduction, disposal, and recycling standards to be consistent with those requirements presently enforced in the County. Adoption of Ordinance No. 698 and the provisions it contains are exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to the California Code of Regulations, �15061(b)(3) because this project is covered under the common sense rule that CEQA applies only to projects that have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment.
