NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO EXISTING POLICIES The School Board of Alachua County, Florida, gives notice of its intent to amend existing policies as follows: Date and Time: Tuesday, June 2, 2026, 6:00 p.m. Second Reading Place: Board Room, Alachua County Public Schools Administration Building, 620 East University Avenue, Gainesville, FL The meeting may also be broadcast on a video screen outside the Boardroom, on the Districts website and/or Cox Channel 12. SUBJECT AREAS PROPOSED RULE AMENDMENTS Elementary Code of Student Conduct; Secondary Code of Student Conduct; Student Progression Plan; Policy 5410 Student Progression; and Policy 5500 Student Conduct. PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The purpose is to provide for amended rules to incorporate by reference amendments to the Student Progression Plan for 2026-2027, amendments to the Elementary Code of Student Conduct and the Secondary Code ofStudent Conduct for 2026-2027; conform rules to current legislation; and eliminate redundant and obsolete language. The effect is that the rules will be current and easier to understand. Rulemaking Authority: Fla. Stat. 1001.31; 1001.32; 1001.41; 1001.42; 1001.43; 1001.49; 1003.02; 1006.07; 1008.25. Notice of Rule Development appeared on the Districts Legal Notice website on April 4/14/26 and in the Mainstreet Daily News newspaper on 4/15/26. The text of the proposed amended rules may be viewed at the District Website, www.sbac.edu [http://www.sbac.edu], under the Boards June 2, 2026 Board meeting agenda, or obtained without cost from the Office of the Superintendent, 620 East University Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32601, (352) 955-7880. There are several ways in which citizens could offer their input on these items: 1) submit input through email to issues@gm.sbac.edu (include the phrase Policies 6-2-26 in the subject line); or 2) complete an online speaker request form that will be available at alachuaschools.net/public for 24 hours before the meeting begins; or 3) complete a paper version of the Speaker Request Form, which will be available in the Boardroom 30 minutes prior to the beginning and submitted before the meeting begins. STATEMENT OF ESTIMATED REGULATORY COST: The School Board does not anticipate the adoption of this rule will (1) have an adverse impact on small business; or (2) directly or indirectly increase regulatory costs in excess of $200,000 in the aggregate in the state within 1 year after the implementation of the rule. Any person who wishes to provide a proposal for a lower cost regulatory alternative must do so in writing to the Superintendent within 21 days after publication of this notice. Any material pertinent to the issues under consideration submitted in writing to the Superintendent within 21 days after publication of this notice or submitted at the public hearing shall be considered by the Board and made a part of the rulemaking record. A public hearing may be requested on the proposed rule within 21 days from the date of the publication of this Notice. Requests shall be made in writing to Patrick Duggan, Esq., via email at pduggan@shumaker.com. Any person who decides to appeal a decision with respect to a matter considered at the hearing is hereby advised that, for such purpose, such person may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the meeting is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. If a public hearing is held, the people responsible for the proposed amendments to the policies will be available to explain the amendments and respond to questions or comments at that time.
