THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY, FLORIDA NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULEMAKING AND PUBLIC HEARING The School Board of Highlands County, Florida intends to consider adoption of amendments to the following policies at a public hearing on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 5:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, at the George Douglas Administration Building Board Room, 426 School Street, Sebring, Florida 33870 for the following policies: Code of Student Conduct for the upcoming school year to implement changes in law and modify language as necessary to result in a cohesive policy that is current and easy to understand. Legal authorities for the foregoing include s. 1001.41, 1001.42, and 1001.43, F.S., and laws implemented also include all citations cited in the proposed policy. It is intended that the policies be created (if new) or deleted or amended (if existing) with the purpose and effect of reflecting current law and eliminating redundant or obsolete language to result in cohesive policies that are current and easy to use and understand. Notice of Rule Development for the foregoing was published January 23, 2026 and again March 4, 2026 in the Highlands News-Sun. No statement of estimated regulatory costs has been prepared. Any person who wishes to provide a proposal for a lower cost regulatory alternative must do so in writing within 21 days of this notice. The proposed policies are not expected to require legislative ratification.
