Notification of Environmental Investigation and Cleanup Former Newark Police Academy Shooting Range 294-308 Avenue P, Newark, New Jersey (Block 5060.01 / Lot 150) NJDEP Preferred ID #G000008888 NJDEP Case # 18-07-06-0955-41 May 6, 2026 In accordance with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations for Notification and Public Outreach (N.J.A.C. 7:26E-1.4(I)), the following provides a summary of information relating to environmental investigation and remedial activities that have been and are being conducted at the above-referenced former Newark Police Academy Shooting Range (Site). Impacts at the Site are associated with historic point source releases and/or previous operational activities, as well as the placement of historic fill. Compounds detected in soil and groundwater related to the historic point source releases include total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)/extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (EPH) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Contamination in both soil and groundwater has migrated off-site. Approximate delineation of soil and groundwater is complete and is detailed within a Remedial Investigation Report (RIR) that was submitted to NJDEP on July 5, 2024. Apollo Development and Land Corporation, Inc., the current property owner, will be conducting remedial action activities in accordance with NJDEP regulatory requirements to address the contaminants detected which originate thereon. In addition, an evaluation of receptors in the area has been completed to ensure that the remedy for the Site is appropriate and fully protective of human health and the environment. Additional information can be requested, and comments on the remediation, including the proposed remedial plan, are being accepted.
