LEGAL NOTICE SCHODACK CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT TOWNS OF SCHODACK AND STUYVESANT COUNTIES OF RENSSELAER AND COLUMBIA STATE OF NEW YORK NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, ANNUAL MEETING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Board of Education in the Schodack Central School District, No. 1, Towns of Schodack and Stuyvesant, Counties of Rens- selaer and Columbia, State of New York, pursuant to Section 1716, Educa- tion Law, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Schodack Cen- tral School District will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Room #310 of the District Office Building (former Maple Hill Middle School) in said district, located at 1477 South Schodack Road in the Town of Schodack, Rensselaer County, New York at 6:00 PM, Prevailing Time, for the presentation of the budget. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to Section 1716, Educa- tion Law, that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, exclusive of public mon- ies, may be obtained by any resident of the district during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the election (except Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday), and on the date of the election, at any Schodack Central School District schoolhouse and the Schodack Central School District Office, 1477 South Schodack Road, Castleton NY 12033, during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The statement includes required budget attachments and the Lo- cal Government Exemption Impact Report. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to Section 2004, Educa- tion Law, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of Member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District during the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM and not later than 5:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026 The following seats are to be filled on the Board of Education: Three-Year Terms: To Succeed Blake Kush 7/1/2026 to 6/30/2029 To Succeed Shelley Palmer 7/1/2026 to 6/30/2029 To Succeed Mary Yurista 7/1/2026 to 6/30/2029 Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, must state the residence of each signer, must state the name and residence of the candi- date. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with Section 2018-a of the Education Law applications for absentee ballots (where appli- cable) may be obtained by any resident of the district between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, except legal holidays, Satur- days, and Sundays, from the District Clerk, District Office, 1477 South Scho- dack Road, Castleton, NY 12033 (518) 732-2297. Absentee ballots must be applied for unless the voter's registration is marked "permanently disabled" by the County Board of Elections. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter (Tuesday, May 12, 2026), or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter (Monday, May 18, 2026). Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 PM, Prevailing Time, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for public inspection to qualified voters of the District in the Office of the District Clerk on and after Wednesday, May 13, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Mon- day through Friday, except Sunday (Saturday by appointment), prior to the day set for the annual election and on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the day set for the election, and said list will be posted at the polling place at the election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written chal- lenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Such written challenge will be transmitted by the District Clerk to the inspectors of the election on the day of the vote. AND FURTHER NOTICE that military voters who are qualified voters of the School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at (518) 732-2297, or mreickert@schodack.k12.ny.us. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2026. Military voters who are not currently registered to vote may apply to register as a qualified voter by filling out a Military Voter Registration Ap- plication, which can be obtained by requesting an application from the Dis- trict Clerk. Military Voter Registration Applications must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. The District will transmit military ballots to military voters no later than Friday, April 24, 2026. Completed military bal- lots must be received by the School District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in order to be counted. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with Section 2018-f of the N.Y. Education Law, that (1) applications for early mail ballots may be applied for at the District Clerk's office; (2) a list of all persons who were issued early mail ballots have been issued will be available in the Dis- trict Clerk's office on each of five (5) days prior to the day of the election, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., except Sunday (Saturday by appointment); and (3) that such list will also be posted at the polling or places at the election of members of the Board of Education. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Proposition 1 shall appear on the ballot labels of the voting machines for the official vote on the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, together with the election of members of the Board of Education of said district, to be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the gymnasium of the Maple Hill Jr/Sr High School in said district, located at 1216 Maple Hill Road in the Town of Schodack, Rensselaer County, New York voting to be by means of voting machines, polls to be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Prevailing Time. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Proposition 2 shall appear on the ballot labels of the voting machines in the following form: SHALL the Board of Education of the Schodack Central School District be authorized to: (1) purchase two (2) school buses at a maximum cost of $441,000, and (2) finance such purchase with from the expenditure of funds in the General Fund? AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Proposition 3 shall appear on the ballot labels of the voting machines in the following form: Shall the Board of Education of the Schodack Central School District be au- thorized to establish a Capital Reserve Fund in an amount not to exceed $6,000,000 plus accrued interest, with a probable term of ten (10) years, for the purpose of financing the construction, reconstruction, renovations, ad- ditions and improvements to various District buildings, facilities and sites, and the acquisition of furnishings, equipment, machinery or apparatus re- quired in connection with such buildings, facilities and sites, with such Cap- ital Reserve Fund being funded from unallocated fund balance and future budget surpluses? AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Proposition 4 shall appear on the ballot labels of the voting machines in the following form: Pursuant to Education Law, Section 259, the Board of Education of the Scho- dack Central School District is authorized to levy and collect an annual tax, separate and apart from the annual school district budget, in the amount of one hundred sixty-two thousand dollars ($162,000), which shall be paid to the Castleton Public Library for the support and maintenance of the library; with this appropriated amount to be the annual appropriation until thereaf- ter modified by a future vote of the electors of the Schodack Central School District.
