NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND BUDGET VOTE Glens Falls Common School District Abraham Wing School Glens Falls, New York Budget Hearing A budget hearing for the residents of the Glens Falls Common School District (Abraham Wing School) will be held at the Abraham Wing School, 120 Lawrence Street, Glens Falls, New York, commencing at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, where there shall be presented the proposed school district budget for the following school year. Statement of Funds Required for Next School Year A copy of the statement of the funds which would be required for the next school year for school purposes shall be available to any resident of the District at the Abraham Wing School between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. beginning April 30, 2026, except for Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. Date of Vote The vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures or for any propositions involving the expenditure of money or the authorizing of levy of taxes, as well as the election of a member of the Board of Education, shall be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Abraham Wing School, 120 Lawrence Street, Glens Falls, New York, between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Vote for a Board Member Petitions nominating candidates for the office on member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on or before April 20, 2026. The following vacancy is to be filled: A three-year term beginning July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2029. Each petition must be addressed to the Clerk of the District, signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer, the name and address of the candidate, and shall describe the specific vacancy on the Board of Education for which the candidate is nominated, which description shall include at least the length of term of office, and the name of the last incumbent. Qualified Voters Any person 18 years of age or over, and a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the Glens Falls Common School District (Abraham Wing School) for 30 days next preceding the date for voting is entitled to register and vote. Absentee and Early Mail-In Ballots Applications for absentee and early mail-in ballots may be applied for at the office of the District Clerk at 120 Lawrence Street, Glens Falls, New York 12801. Such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the vote set in this notice if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee voter or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the absentee voter. Absentee ballots must be received in the office of the Clerk of the District no later than 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the date of the vote. The Education Law makes special provisions for absentee voting for “military” voters of the School District. Specifically, the law provides a unique procedure for “military ballots” in school district votes. A military voter may elect to receive their absentee ballot application and absentee ballot by mail, email or facsimile. The District Clerk of the School District shall transmit the military voter’s military ballot in accord with the military voter’s preferred method of transmission. The military voter must, however, return their original military absentee ballot application and military ballot by mail or in person. A list of all persons to whom absentee and early mail-in voters’ ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection during regular office hours, which are between the hours of 8:00am and 3:00pm Any qualified voter, may, upon examination of such list, file written challenge of qualifications of a voter or any person, whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for the challenge. Such list shall be posted in a conspicuous place during the election, and any qualified voter may challenge the acceptance of the absentee voters’ ballots or a person on such list, by making this challenge and the reasons for the challenge known to the inspectors of election before the close of the polls.
