Legal Notice for 2026-2027 Budget NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED BUDGET AND ANNUAL DISTRICT BUDGET VOTE NOTICE is hereby given that a public budget hearing of the residents of the Cato-Meridian Central School District will be held by said school district on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 6:00 PM in the District Conference Room located in the elementary school building at 2851 State Route 370, Cato, NY 13033 for the purpose of reviewing the proposed 2026-2027 school district budget. AND NOTICE is also hereby given that balloting on the 2026-2027 budget and such other propositions which shall be properly be authorized shall be conducted in the Cato-Meridian Elementary School Library Media Center on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Qualified voters may cast ballots between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM EST. AND NOTICE is also given that at said annual budget vote and election to be held on May 19, 2026, the following proposition will be presented to the voters of the Cato-Meridian Central School District: 1. Shall the Board of Education of the Cato-Meridian Central School District be authorized to purchase and finance three (3) 64-passenger student transport vehicles and one (1) utility truck, including necessary furnishings, fixtures and equipment and all other costs incidental thereto, and expend a total sum not to exceed $575,000, which is estimated to be the total maximum cost thereof, and said amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be raised by the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of said School District and collected in annual installments as provided by Section 416 of the Education Law; and, in anticipation of such tax, obligations of said School District, in the principal amount not to exceed $575,000, be issued? AND NOTICE is also given that a detailed statement in writing of the amount of money which will be requested for the ensuing year, July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, will be available upon request to residents within the district from May 5, 2026 until and including May 19, 2026, at the Cato-Meridian Central School Business Office during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM except Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. AND NOTICE is also given that petitions nominating candidates for Board of Education seats must be filed with the District Clerk between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM during business days and no later than April 20, 2026 at 5:00 PM. AND NOTICE is also given that two vacancies on the Board of Education shall be voted upon at the annual budget vote and election on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, each for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2026 and concluding June 30, 2029. These vacancies arise from the expiration of the terms of current board members Harmon Kent, III and Nathan Wallace. AND NOTICE is also given that applications for early voting and absentee ballots may be applied for at the office of the Clerk in the District Office at gmarriam@catomeridian.org. Such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the vote set in this notice if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. A list of all persons to whom early voting and absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available for inspection in the District Clerk’s Office, during regular business hours, during each of the five days prior to the election except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Early voting and absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Military voters who are qualified voters of the District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on April 20, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission, or electronic mail.
