New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Notice of Complete Application Date: 04/07/2026 Applicant: AUSABLE CHASM COMPANY 2144 RTE 9 PO BOX 390 KEESEVILLE, NY 12911-0390 Facility: AUSABLE CHASM COMPANY PROPERTY US RTE 9 AT AUSABLE RIVER Chesterfield, NY 12911 Application ID: 5-9905-00096/00007 Permits(s) Applied for: 1 - Section 401 - Clean Water Act Water Quality Certification 1 - Article 15 Title 5 Excavation & Fill in Navigable Waters 1 - Article 15 Title 5 Stream Disturbance Project is located: in SEVERAL COUNTIES in THIS REGION Project Description: The applicant proposes changes to the channel modifications within the Ausable Chasm of the main branch Ausable River, a Class C(T) navigable waterbody. The proposed work involves the removal of a previously installed 930 square foot concrete berm, and the relocation of native stone to be reused on-site as subgrade underneath sloped, grouted boulders with a reinforced concrete toe. The proposed channel modification will occupy 4800 square feet over 282 linear feet of the southern riverbank and is designed to concentrate flow along the north side of the channel at low flow conditions. The proposed design is intended to enhance recreational use of the river during periods of low flow. Availability of Application Documents: Filed application documents, and Department draft permits where applicable, are available for inspection during normal business hours at the address of the contact person. To ensure timely service at the time of inspection, it is recommended that an appointment be made with the contact person. State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed. SEQR Lead Agency None Designated State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination A cultural resources survey has been completed. The report of the survey is on file. No archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required. Availability For Public Comment Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than 04/30/2026 or 15 days after the publication date of this notice, whichever is later.
