PUBLIC NOTICE Informational Meeting for Camp Howze Remedial Action Field Operations at MRS-16, Artillery Range Southeast MRS-17, Artillery Range Northwest MRS-18, Artillery Range North MRS-19, Artillery Range Northeast MRS-20, Rocket And Rifle Grenade Ranges MRS-21, Mortar And Rifle Grenade Ranges U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Regional Planning and Environmental Center is seeking public input on the Remedial Action for Munitions Response Sites (MRSs) 16, 18, 18, 19, 20, and 21 within Camp Howze, Cooke County, Texas. MRSs 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 comprise 3,837 of the 59,000 acres of the Camp Howze Formerly Used Defense Site. The MRS's were formerly used as an infantry division center, and contained numerous maneuver areas, mortar ranges, rifle ranges, and other infantry training areas. The MRSs were historically used as for mortar, anti-tank rocket, rifle grenade, and force maneuver training and known types of munitions used are small arms ammunition up to .50 caliber, hand grenades, anti-tank (AT) and fragmentation rifle grenades, 2.36-inch high explosive anti-tank rockets, mortar rounds up to 81 millimeter (mm), and high explosive (HE) projectiles from 20mm to 155mm, all of which date back to the World War II era. The local community is encouraged to attend this informational meeting, which will be a forum for the exchange of information regarding the ongoing ordnance and explosives removal activities located within the Camp Howze Munitions Response Sites.
