THE U.S. NAVY ANNOUNCES A PROPOSED PLAN TO INFORM AND ENGAGE THE PUBLIC ON THE REMEDY SELECTION FOR THE OPERABLE UNIT 1, NEX GAS STATION LEAK AREA, JACKSON PARK, BREMERTON, WASHINGTON. The United States Navy (Navy), in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has prepared a Proposed Plan for the Operable Unit 1 (OU 1), Navy Exchange (NEX) Gas Station Leak Area at Jackson Park Housing Complex, Bremerton, Washington. The Proposed Plan presents background historical information, an overview of prior environmental investigations and sampling results, and the proposed remedial action for the OU 1 NEX Gas Station Leak Area. As part of its public participation responsibilities under Section (§) 117 (a) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and § 300.430(f)(2) of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan, the Navy is issuing this Proposed Plan for public review and comment. The purpose of the Proposed Plan is to inform and engage the public on the remedy selection for the facility. Public engagement is a component of the remedy selection process, and the remedy will be selected following public input of this Proposed Plan. The public comment period for the Proposed Plan is from April 13, 2026, through May 13, 2026. A Community Engagement Session will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 28, 2026, at the Landings Community Center in Jackson Park, 2785 Cascades Pass Blvd, Bremerton, Washington, 98312. The proposed remedial action will be presented with an opportunity for the public to provide input. This Proposed Plan is included in the Administrative Record for the Jackson Park Housing Complex.
