NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED OLD SHASTA COUNTY COURTHOUSE DEMOLITION PROJECT (SCH# 2025100575) The County of Shasta has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the following project pursuant toCalifornia Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Draft EIR concludes that the project would have significant and unavoidable effects on the environment. As required by law, the County is providing this Notice of Availability of an Environmental Impact Report, as well as providing notice that the County intends to consider the project at a public hearing as described below. NAME OF PROJECT: Old Shasta County Courthouse Demolition Project EIR LOCATION OF PROJECT: 1500 Court Street, Redding, CA 96001 DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: The proposed project includes the following: hazardous materials abatement, site preparation, building demolition, parking lot construction, and site restoration. Following demolition of the buildings, the site would be redeveloped as a public parking lot providing 162 stalls, including 157 regular stalls, four Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible stalls, and one van accessible stall (approximately 75,000 square feet). The redeveloped site would also maintain 34,500 square feet of existing landscaping and would preserve four existing veterans' memorial monuments on the site. Direct vehicle ingress and egress to the parking lot would be provided from West Street. Existing paved walkways providing pedestrian access to the surrounding streets would be preserved. ANTICIPATED SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS: The Draft EIR's analysis of project impacts determined the project would have significant impacts in the following environmental topic areas: -Air Quality -Biological Resources -Cultural Resources and Tribal Cultural Resources -Hazards and Hazardous Materials -Noise and Vibration REVIEW PERIOD: April 1, 2026 through May 15, 2026 PUBLIC MEETINGS: The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will consider the EIR at a public hearing that has been tentatively scheduled for June 16, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Meeting details and updates will be available at https://www.shastacounty.gov/board-supervisors/page/board-agendas-minutes-videos. AVAILABILITY OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT: Copies of the Draft Environmental Impact Report are available for public review online at: https://www.shastacounty.gov/public-works/page/news-events.
