CALIFORNIA SPECIAL GENERAL ELECTION — AUGUST 4, 2026
Notice is hereby given that a Special General Election for United States Representative for California’s 1st Congressional District will be held on August 4, 2026.
To the Qualified Electors of California’s 1st Congressional District:
Pursuant to the Proclamation issued by the Governor of the State of California, a special general election may be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to fill the vacancy in the office of United States Representative for California’s 1st Congressional District. This vacancy resulted from the death of Doug LaMalfa and will occur if no one candidate receives a majority of the votes in the special primary election held on June
2, 2026.
Date: Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Time: Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Office: Member of the United States House of Representatives, 1st Congressional District
Purpose: To fill the unexpired term of the vacant congressional seat.
This is a “top-two” special election. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes in the special primary election held on June 2, 2026, the two candidates who receive the highest number of votes will appear on
the August 4 ballot.
Who May Vote: Registered voters residing within California’s 1st Congressional District who meet all standard eligibility requirements under California law.
Voting Information: In-Person Voting: At your assigned polling place. Check your county elections office or the California Secretary of State website for locations.
Vote-by-Mail Ballots: Ballots will be mailed to registered voters. Contact your county elections office for replacement ballots if needed.
Early Voting: Available prior to Election Day at designated locations. Please see the Shasta County Elections webpage for voting details as they become available.
