Hardee County NOTICE OF COMMUNITY WORKSHOP COUNTY SEEKS COMMUNITY’S INPUT TO DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF HISTORIC RESTHAVEN PROPERTY AND COUNTY SEEKS COMMUNITY’S INPUT ON HARDEE COUNTY RAINFALL STUDY TO ADDRESS EXTREME RAINFALL AS PART OF THE COUNTY’S VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT What: Public Workshop Topics: The Future of Resthaven Hardee County Extreme Rainfall Study – Vulnerability Assessment In Person Meeting: Monday, March 16, 2026 | 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Hardee County Agri-Civic Center 515 Civic Center Drive, Wauchula, FL 33873 Hardee County will hold a workshop to seek community feedback and input about both the future of the Resthaven property and strategies to address extreme rainfall impacts in Hardee County. All interested are encouraged to attend. RESTHAVEN: Hardee County is seeking community input to help determine the future of the historic Resthaven property located near Zolfo Springs. The 5-acre county-owned property, located at 298 Rest Haven Road, Zolfo Springs, FL 33890, closed in 2022 due to financial challenges. Efforts to recruit new operators were unsuccessful, largely because of the significant repairs and upgrades needed to reopen the facility. As a result, the County is now exploring all potential options — including redevelopment, repurposing, or possible sale of the property. Residents are encouraged to attend the workshop and share their thoughts and ideas. In addition to the public meeting, community members may complete an online survey at: www.cfrpc.org/resthaven QR Code for Survey Link AND EXTREME RAINFALL STUDY - VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT: Hardee County is also requesting public input on the findings of its Extreme Rainfall Study, conducted as part of the County’s Vulnerability Assessment funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The study evaluates projected impacts from future extreme rainfall events and associated flooding throughout Hardee County, including the municipalities of Bowling Green, Wauchula, and Zolfo Springs. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to review study results, ask questions, and provide feedback to help inform future resilience and planning efforts. Project contact: Jennifer Codo-Salisbury, jcodosalisbury@cfrpc.org or at (863) 534-7130 ext. 178.
