ASHTON CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING – MAY 11, 2026 The Ashton City Council met in regular session on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.at Ashton City Hall. Those in attendance were:Mayor Mark Vander Pol, Council Members:John Bucher, Jacob Bos, Mark Carlson, John Corbett and Kay Winkel. Others present were:City Employee Andy Gacke and City Clerk Nancy Marnach. Mayor Vander Pol called the meeting to order. A motion was made by Corbett and seconded by Bos to approve the May 11, 2026 agenda. All were in favor. The motion was carried. Council member Bucher introduced Resolution No. 2026-05 entitled “RESOLUTION FOR MINIMUM ASSESSMENT AGREEMENT FOR 238 2ND AVE” and moved that it be adopted. Council member Winkel seconded the motion to adopt. The roll was called and the vote was:AYES:Bucher, Bos, Carlson, Corbett and Winkel. NAYS:None. Whereupon, the Mayor declared said Resolution duly adopted. Council member Corbett introduced Resolution No. 2026-06 entitled “RESOLUTION FOR MINIMUM ASSESSMENT AGREEMENT FOR 536 5TH STREET” and moved that it be adopted. Council member Bos seconded the motion to adopt. The roll was called and the vote was:AYES:Bucher, Bos, Carlson, Corbett and Winkel. NAYS:None. Whereupon, the Mayor declared said Resolution duly adopted. The City of Ashton received one sealed bid for the sale of City owned real estate at 238 2nd Avenue, Ashton, Iowa. Council Member Corbett moved to award the bid to Mick Klein and enter into the real estate contract. Council Member Bos seconded the motion. The roll call vote was:AYES:Bucher, Bos, Carlson, Corbett and Winkel. NAYS:None. The City of Ashton received one sealed bid for the sale of City owned real estate at 536 5th Street, Ashton, Iowa. Council Member Winkel moved to award the bid to Walt Wiersma and enter into the real estate contract with the stipulation that the garage doors face to the north. Council Member Bucher seconded the motion. The roll call vote was:AYES:Bucher, Bos, Carlson, Corbett and Winkel. NAYS:None. A motion was made by Bos and seconded by Carlson to waive the reading of the minutes from the previous meeting. All were in favor. The motion was carried. A motion was made by Winkel and seconded by Corbett to enter into closed session to discuss matters that are in litigation. The roll call vote was:AYES:Bucher, Bos, Carlson, Corbett and Winkel. NAYS:None. A motion was made by Carlson and seconded by Bucher to go back into open session. The roll call vote was:AYES:Bucher, Bos, Carlson, Corbett and Winkel. NAYS:None.
