MORRIS CENTRAL SCHOOL ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET HEARING and BUDGET VOTE PROPOSITION #1 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the annual Budget Hearing of the inhabitants of Morris Central School District No. 1, Towns of Morris, New Lisbon, Pittsfield and Laurens, et al, Otsego County, will be held at the school library in said District on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the Annual School Budget Vote and Election of Members to the Board of Education for those qualified to vote in said District, will be held at the school in said District, main entrance lobby, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 12 noon and 8:00 p.m. for the transaction of such business as is authorized by Education Law. Parking in the bus loop will not be available from 2:40 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. due to student dismissal. Voting at said meeting shall be conducted by the use of paper ballots. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes exclusive of public monies, and the Tax Exemption Report may be obtained by any taxpayer in the District during the fourteen days immediately preceding the annual meeting, except Saturday, Sunday, or holidays, at the Morris Central School District Office, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 1:30 pm to 3:30 p.m. PETITIONS nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the district, Judy Matson, not later than the 30th day prior to the school meeting at which candidates so nominated are to be elected. Petitions may be obtained from the District Office anytime during school hours between now and Friday, April 17, 2026. AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the following proposition will be submitted for voter approval at such time: PROPOSITION #2 Shall the following resolution be adopted to wit: Resolved that the Board of Education of the Morris Central School District is hereby authorized to undertake the acquisition of one (1) large school bus at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $190,000, less trade-in value, if any, and that such cost, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments, with such tax to be offset by state aid available therefor; and, in anticipation of such tax, debt, obligations of the school district as may be necessary not to exceed $190,000 shall be issued, or the School District may enter into an installment purchase contract if the Board of Education determines that it is in the best interest of the School District to finance the purchase in that method. APPLICATIONS for early mail and absentee ballots may be applied for at the District Office. The District Clerk must receive such applications at least seven days before the vote set in this notice if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee voter or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the absentee voter. Absentee ballots must be received in the office of the Clerk of the District not later than 5:00 p.m. on the date of the vote. APPLICATIONS for qualified military voters may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at (607) 263-6102 or jmatson@morriscsd.org. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 23, 2026. A list of all persons to whom early voter, military voter, and absentee voters' ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection during regular office hours, which are between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Any qualified voter may challenge the list upon examination of such list, stating the reasons for the challenge. Such list shall be posted during the election, and any qualified voter may challenge the acceptance of the absentee voters' ballots or a person on such list, by making this challenge and the reasons for the challenge known to the inspectors of election before the close of the polls. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that any person, otherwise qualified to vote, who is c urrently registered for any general election, pursuant to Section 352 of the Election Law, shall be entitled to vote without further registration pursuant to Section 2015 of the Education Law.
