Pesticide Application for Mosquito Control by Orient Mosquito District from May 1, 2026 to October 31, 2026
The following pesticides may be used by the Orient Mosquito District in its mosquito control program. These pesticides are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
VECTOMAX WSP – Valent Biosciences Corp (EPA Reg #73049-429) 4.5% Bacillus thuringiensis, 2.7% Bacillus sphaericus. Hazardous to humans and domestic animals. Caution: causes moderate eye irritation. Harmful if absorbed through the skin. Prolonged or frequent skin contact may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco or using the toilet. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
VECTOBAC GS – Valent Biosciences Corp (EPA Reg #73049-10) 2.80% Bacillus thuringiensis, subspecies israelensis. Hazards to humans and domestic animals. Caution: Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
VECTOLEX FG – Valent Biosciences Corp (EPA Reg #73049-20) 7.5% Bacillus sphaericus. Hazards to humans and domestic animals. Caution: Harmful if absorbed through the skin. Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
VECTOPRIME FG – Valent Biosciences Corp (EPA Reg #73049-501) 6.07% Bacillus Thuringiensis subspecies israelensis, strain AM 65-52, .10% (s) Methoprene. Hazardous to humans and domestic animals. Caution: Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco or using the toilet.
ALTOSID BRIQUETS – Wellmark International (EPA Reg #2724-375) 8.62% Methoprene. Hazardous to humans and domestic animals. Caution: Causes moderate eye irritation. Harmful if absorbed through the skin. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap ad water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum or using tobacco. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Pesticide application will be made to the following areas on the schedule provided: Weekly ground pesticide applications for larval control: will be applied once a week, if needed, to mosquito sites in approximately 600 salt marsh acres bordering Gardiners Bay in the Village of Orient from Peters Neck to Orient State Park and north to the Main Road as well as fresh water ponds and catch basins in the Orient Mosquito District.
Aerial spraying for larval mosquito control: will be applied weekly as required to approximately 20 tidal salt water marshes.
Beekeepers should notify the Orient Mosquito District at the address below of the location of all hives.
