On January 22, 1917, Ella Wittich Mearns deposited with the Smithsonian Institution the Military Discharge of David Niles. The Smithsonian has received no further communications from Ms. Mearns (d. 1943, Circleville, OH). The Smithsonian intends to terminate and treat the deposit as a donation. If you believe you have a right, title, or interest to the Discharge, please contact Kenneth Cohen at National Museum of American History, 1300 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20560, cohenk@si.edu or 202-633-3434. If no response to this notice is received by June 2, 2026, 45 days from initial publication of this notice, the Smithsonian will consider the Discharge donated.
