Notice of Vacancy - Independent Civilian Advisory Commission on the Sheriff's Office (ICAC): President of the Board of Supervisors Noelia Corzo announced that applications are being accepted for appointment to the Independent Civilian Advisory Commission on the Sheriff's Office. There are currently two (2) vacancies: One (1) At-Large Alternate, to be nominated by the ICAC Board Liaisons (Supervisor Corzo and Supervisor Mueller) One (1) One Sheriff's Nominee, to be nominated by the Sheriff for Board approval pursuant to the Resolution establishing ICAC's membership . To be eligible, you must apply. All members must be residents of San Mateo County. Consideration shall be given to applicant's background and community involvement to the extent relevant to fulfillment of Commission's mission. No members may be County employees or sworn peace officers. Those applying for a specific supervisorial district-represented seat must be residents of that district within San Mateo County. Deadline for receiving applications has been extended to Friday, May 22, 2026 at 5:00 PM and can be submitted online using the ICAC application: https://www.smcgov.org/bnc/application-independent-civilian-advisory-commission-sheriffs-office. ICAC will advise the Board of Supervisors in its effort to facilitate public transparency, accountability, and public engagement with respect to the Sheriff's Office. It provides a public forum for input from the community regarding the Sheriff's Office, develops and implements an annual work plan, and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. The Commission includes 7 voting members and 2 alternates, of which 5 members are district represented members nominated by each Supervisor and reside in their respective districts; one member is nominated by the Sheriff, and the remaining one member and two alternates are at-large and nominated by the two Board liaisons. Selected non-voting members of the Sheriff's CARE program and one non-voting member of the Youth Commission serve as liaisons. All nominations are subject to the approval of the full Board of Supervisors. Meetings are held at least four (4) times per year, currently occurring monthly on the 1st Wednesdays of the month from 6:30-8:30 PM in Manzanita Hall, 500 County Center, Redwood City.
