Public Hearing Notice
Implementing California Assembly Bill 1572 Prohibiting the use of Potable Water for the Irrigation of Nonfunctional Turf
Notice is hereby given that on May 21, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. in the District Boardroom, 855 Baseline Road, Rialto, CA 92376, the West Valley Water District’s Board of Directors will conduct a public hearing to receive public comments and consider adoption of a new Ordinance implementing California Assembly Bill 1572 Prohibiting the use of Potable Water for the Irrigation of Nonfunctional Turf. Following the public hearing, the District’s Board of Directors may adopt the Ordinance with recommended modifications, if any, as a result of public input.The Draft Ordinance provides a definition of nonfunctional turf as turf that is not designated by the property owner or a governmental agency to accommodate human foot traffic for recreation, including but not limited to, sports fields, golf courses, playgrounds, picnic grounds, or pet exercise areas. The Draft Ordinance also provides some exceptions for residential properties, cemeteries, community spaces, and other irregular situations. The Ordinance includes timelines, enforcement options and appeals processes for compliance consistent with California Assembly Bill 1572.A copy of the Draft Ordinance 93 is available for public review and can be downloaded at www.WVWD.org or viewed at the District office at 855 Baseline Road, Rialto CA 92376.
