CITY OF MISSION VIEJOCITY COUNCILNOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Mission Viejo will conduct a public hearing pertaining to the item listed below. DATE OF HEARING :MAY 12, 2026TIME OF HEARING :6:00 P.M. OR SOON THEREAFTERLOCATION OF HEARING :CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER200 CIVIC CENTER, MISSION VIEJO, CA 92691 GENERAL PLAN AMENDMENT P-GPA2026-0003A City-initiated petition for consideration of an amendment to the Safety Element of the City of Mission Viejo General Plan, as required pursuant to Government Code Section 65302(g)(3). The Safety Element of the City of Mission Viejo General Plan is required by State law to identify community safety risks and establish goals, policies, and programs to safeguard residents and businesses from those risks. Safety risks posing the greatest local threat include fire hazards, geologic risks, flooding, and climate change. Other topics addressed in the Safety Element include emergency preparedness, hazardous materials and waste, and evacuation constraints. The Safety Element was last updated by the City in 2009. The City is mandated by Government Code Section 65302(g)(3) to update the Safety Element in conjunction with any Housing Element update, or upon the update of the next Hazard Mitigation Plan. The City updated its Housing Element in 2023 and updated its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan in October of 2024. CEQA DETERMINATION : Categorical Exemption INVITATION TO BE HEARD : Those persons desiring to testify in favor of or in opposition to the proposed project will be given an opportunity to do so at the public hearing. If you challenge the proposed project in court, you may be limited to raising only those issues you or someone else raised at the public hearing described in this notice, or in written correspondence to the City Council at, or prior to the public hearing.
