NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGNotice is hereby given that the Whittier City Council will conduct a de novo public hearing on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., or as soon after as the matter can be heard, in the Council Chamber, 13230 Penn Street, on the following matter: Certificate of Appropriateness No. HRC26-0004, a request to allow for the installation of exterior stairs, along the east side of Building 7 (Superintendent’s Residence), with associated interior tenant improvements for the property located at 7008 Walnut Grove Drive, City of Whittier, and more particularly described as Assessor’s Identification No. (AIN) 8170-040-093 in the City of Whittier. (Applicant: Tom Carpenter and Owner: Whittier and Sorensen, LLC).The project is categorically exempt from the environmental review process, pursuant to Section 15331, Class 31 (Historical Resource Restoration/Rehabilitation) of the California Environmental Quality Act, in that proposed work is limited to maintenance, repair, stabilization, rehabilitation, restoration, preservation, conservation or reconstruction of historical resources consistent with the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.Hazardous Waste Sites: The project site is not located on any of the lists enumerated under Government Code Section 65952.5.Please review the May 26, 2026, meeting agenda, which will be available on the city’s website, https://www.cityofwhittier.org/government/agendas-and-minutes , for the most up-to-date options for participating in City Council meetings.Public Comment options for City Council Meetings :• Email: ccd@cityofwhittier.org (must be submitted prior to 5:00 p.m. on May 26, 2026)Any person wishing to comment on the proposed project may do so in writing between the date of this notice and the public hearing(s); or, may be heard via Zoom at the time noted above.
