THE SCHOOL BOARD OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA NOTICE OF INTENT TO AMEND A RULE RULE NUMBERS/TITLES: Policy 8330 - Student Records PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The revisions to Policy 8330 are based on amendments to F.A.C. 6A-1.0955 and address maintenance requirements of threat management records, including re-categorizing the records as "Category A" instead of "Category B" records. SUMMARY OF THE RULE: In order to provide appropriate educational services and programming, the School Board must collect, retain, and use information about individual students. Student records are for the educational benefit of the student and the information recorded and maintained in those records shall be to enhance the educational, health, and safety interests of the student. The Board recognizes that the use of data is vital to ensuring the best education for students but it simultaneously recognizes the need to balance the benefits of using student data with the need to protect student privacy. The Board requires all education data holders in the District to act responsibly and be held accountable for safeguarding students' personally identifiable information from educational records. Student information shall be protected by the District and shall be disclosed only for the authorized purposes and under the circumstances permitted by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, laws, and statutes.
