THE SCHOOL BOARD OF LEON COUNTY, FLORIDA NOTICE OF INTENT TO AMEND A RULE RULE NUMBERS/TITLES: Policy 8405 - School Safety and Security PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The revisions to Policy 8405 are the result of amendments to F.A.C. 6A-1.0019. The revisions include the following: (1) a new provision requiring the designation of Primary and Secondary Threat Management Coordinators along with notice to the Office of Safe Schools of the contact information of these individuals by August 1 of each year; (2) modifications to the membership of threat management teams, including the "Core Four;" and (3) deletion of outdated timeline language. SUMMARY OF THE RULE: The School Board is committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and drug-free environment in all of the schools of the District. School crime and violence are multifaceted problems that need to be addressed in a manner that utilizes all available resources in the community through a coordinated effort of District personnel, law enforcement agencies, first responders, and families. The Board further believes that school administrators and local law enforcement officials must work together to provide for the safety and welfare of students while they are at school or a school-related event, or are on their way to and from school.
