CITY OF SAUSALITO NOTICE OF CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED CITY CHARTER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Sausalito City Council will hold a public hearing beginning at 5:0 0 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 420 Litho Street, Sausalito to consider a proposed City Charter and whether to proceed with placement of a Charter City ballot measure on the November 3, 2026 Statewide General Election ballot. The proposed Charter would establish the City of Sausalito as a charter city under Article XI, section 3 of the California Constitution . The proposed Charter maintains the City's existing CouncilManager form of government and includes provisions relating to organization of government, control over municipal affairs, public contracting and procurement, revenue and taxation, elections, land use, and community participation. The proposed Charter and related materials are available for public review at City Hall and on the City's website. This will be the first of two public hearings required by state law. At the public hearing, the City Council may propose revisions to the Charter. The adoption of a Charter is not a project subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, because it solely concerns the internal organization of the City and adoption a charter will not cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. What will Happen. During the June 2, 2026 meeting, the City Council will consider all public testimony, both oral and written, regarding the proposed Charter and Charter City process. The City Council may provide direction to staff, continue the public hearing, request revisions or additional information, and/or proceed with scheduling subsequent hearings and related ballot measure actions in accordance with Government Code Section 34458. Public Comment and Participation: Any interested person may attend the meeting to comment in person.
