South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 (530) 573-3450(530) 542-3364 FaxEl Dorado County will consider updates to its Solid Waste Management Ordinance at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will take place in the City of South Lake Tahoe City Hall - Council Chambers, 1901 Lisa Maloff Way, South Lake Tahoe, and will also be livestreamed for those who wish to participate remotely.Environmental Management is recommending the Board introduce Ordinance 5262, which would update the County's solid waste regulations for the first time since 1997. The proposed changes include expanding mandatory waste collection services to the Tahoma-Meeks Bay area, eliminating the use of plastic bags for yard and organic waste to allow better processing of compostable materials, and consolidating enforcement responsibilities under the County's Code Enforcement Division. Environmental Management would continue overseeing franchise administration and customer service concerns. The May 12 meeting serves as the “first reading," during which the Board will review the proposed ordinance, hear staff presentations, and invite public comment. If the Board votes to move the ordinance forward, it will return for a second reading and possible final adoption on May 19.Residents in the potentially affected Tahoma-Meeks Bay area have already received informational mailers outlining the proposed changes. Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal will also present details about the enhanced services that would accompany the expansion of mandatory collection.
